What MPH gets the best MPG?
As 0 mph gives 0 mpg...
100 mph gives terrible mpg... At what speed should cruise control be set to get the best mileage out of the Z? I set cruise @ 80 this weekend and got 23.0 mpg over 300 miles. Whacha got?

Well, technically, the lowest rpm at the fastest speed...
Ok, I'll reword it, that looks funny. 6th gear has the lowest ratio, so, whatever rpm is just above where the motor lugs. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood or 45 mph. That sucks, don't it? Oh, you wanted to know about useful speeds!!?! If you will set your cruise control about 65, and don't touch the gas or brakes, you would probably be amazed at the milage you would get, but where's the fun in that? While I do track my milage, mainly because I'm ocd that way, I don't worry too much about the actual numbers, as long as they stay pretty consistent. A number uot of the normal range could indicate a problem that needs attention. Oh, and I got over 26 on my 300 mile maiden voyage back from San Antonio. :driving Kirk B. |

Probably 1800-2000 rpm in top gear. I'd bet it's right at 55mph.

Can't say I've ever considered or thought about getting the best mileage in the Z.

You should be able to get close with the fuel usage gauge. May need to use your foot to keep throttle steady while taking readings.
It will vary with temp, humidity, road surface, etc. It probably won't be the same for a stock setup and one with mods. FWIW, on the rolling hills of S AR, I can get over 2 MPG better than cruise using my foot.

I have a several mile long spot on my drive to/from work over a dam; and that's straight, flat, unused, and 45mph. The Z will show like 28mpg average over that distance if I stay at 45mph, which is the best I ever see out of it.
Otherwise, yeah, putting MPG meters and estimators in the Z had to be someone's idea of funny. |

City I get a little over 300 miles per tank, highway I get a little over 400 per tank, I drive aggressive mind you... city or highway, but when cruising highway I try to keep it at 80 mph. Lately I have been finding myself going over 80 though...I am seriously considering a radar detector...not so much concerned about gas mileage as I am with speeding tickets..the Z just makes me want to drive fast as I believe it was meant to be

Erm, what?
Care to check that math again? Using fuel (car running) while not moving, will eventually empty your tank. Giving Zero miles for your gallons.

Over the 18000 or so miles I've driven the Z, my overall average is 24.505 MPG. I've had a high of 28.8 on the way home from ZdayZ this year while averaging 60 MPH...on the track about 10
