Default Why are the older Z34's faster than the newer ones?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone can explain this. I'm coming from a 350Z and I am lurking always doing research on the 370Z. What I keep finding is the Z34 from 2009-2011 has 0-60 times times of 4.7 seconds and the newer 370Z's are clocked at 5.1 which is extremely close to my old 350Z which was at 5.2. I didn't see any downgraded performance or changes in transmissions since then so what gives? Is it different tires?

I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but 0-60 times are highly variable depending on the driver and conditions.

With that said, Z is a sub-5 second 0-60 car, with the AT slightly faster than the MT. Also the Z is not a muscle car, so it's 0-60 time is not what the Z is about.

2012 is the year they added the oil cooler. It would add more load to the oil pump. Whether that is a plausible explanation I do hesitate.

Isn't the oil cooler coolant based? The oil pump only has to pump the oil through a tiny sandwich plate between the filter and block.

Maybe due to stricter Emission Control, they tuned to meet certain Country's standard.

I'm sorry but a third of a second isn't slightly. The auto is SmackDown faster than the manual.

Nissan has done a lot to sound deaden as well as tamed the suspension. Then added a heavy oil cooler. Performing simple suspension mods will get you back to those 09 numbers. It's mainly the suspension tuning has been softened for the whiny NVH bitches.

Ahh ok that makes sense then. Thanks for the useful info. Was wondering why they were different. Carry on.

Out of curiosity, how heavy is the stock oil cooler?

You need to keep in mind that there is no standard when it comes to 0-60 times. Also, most of the rest of the world including Japan state 0-100 km acceleration times which is actually 0-62 miles/hr. So there is a difference there.
Regardless, acceleration times from a standstill are no longer that significant today. The whole package is more important to most buyers.

If you are buying a Z for 0-60 times you are looking at the wrong car.

2010:
In Europe the tuned down the engine from 243 to 241 kW to meet emission standards.

2012:
added Oil cooler

2013 FL:
added sound deadening

Allthough I think all the fancy pieces of paper from Nissan always stated 5.3s from 0-100km/h (62mph) for the manual and 5.6 for the Auto. 5.2 for the Nismo.
0-60 normally seems to be roughly 0.2 less.

But, several tests seem to have high 4s for the car in general and normally a faster time for the non-Nismo as the suspension is a bit softer, weight shifts easier to the accelerating wheels and therefore generates more traction.

Nevertheless I can guarantee the normal 370Z Sport with the AT is the fastest Z on public roads.
Otherwise driver-mod or bigger b* required.

EDIT: to sum up: I'd never buy an older car just because it could be a friction of a second quicker.

Running Dynolicious on my 2011 compared to my 2014 indicates that the 2014 is slightly faster 0-60 mph, which I attribute to the fact that the clutch on my 2014 is a little less finicky than my 2011 was.

I think this thread is based on a false premise.
