2010 Nissan 370z Weird Noise
Hey all,
I have a 2010 370z TT and I'm experiencing weird noises when i accelerate roughly hard and uphill. It doesn't happen all the time either. It's weird to describe and isn't loud which is why I could not record it. It seems as if I ran over something and it kicked up into my wheel well. It is coming from the front driver side. Maybe loose exhaust? Thanks |
That is not a lot to go on. piece of turbo piping hitting something under acceleration? OEM suspension parts? Could be any number of things.
|
is the sound more loud higher to rpm, or speed, or is it a constant sound under any amount of throttle
|
I need to hit the gas pretty hard while going uphill to hear it. It doesn't do it all the time.

Need a lot more info, is it a metallic noise? A thudding noise? Squealing? Does it sound like it's in the actual fender well itself, or the engine bay on that side? Closer to the cabin, or the nose of the car? Is it intermittent when it happens or constant? Is it French? Does it resemble the screeching roar of Godzilla in anyway?
From the info I have, I assume you ran over a small homeless child and kicked him up into your fenderwell, and when you put the motor under a lot of load the turbos get hotter and it pisses him off, so he's knocking to tell you it's getting too hot under there. Toss a few bottles of water and some chicken nuggets under there and you should be fine. |
Probably not. I'll have to try, but when it happens it only does it for a second. It is not constant and the noise doesn't increase when I'm going faster etc. just sounds like I ran over something.
|
Lmao sway nice one. It's more of a metallic noise coming from the driver side of the engine bay, or directly underneath my seat because when I have the windows down that is when I hear it the most. There is no squealing, it's just kind of a thump and then gone. It's definitely closer to the cabin itself rather than the nose of the car.
|
Are you sure the engine isn't knocking? I'd try running a tankful of the next octane level.
|
What's it look like underneath when you take the undertray off? Is there anything that's close enough to touch something else when the suspension is compressed?
|
I run 93. I'm sure the engine isn't knocking because why would it only do it uphill?

I'm gonna put her on the lift Saturday and check it all out. Also going to do an oil change, maybe that'll help. Thanks guys
|
Do you have any suspension mods?
Also, it might be the engine flexing in a certain way when you are accelerating uphill. |
Nope, suspension is all stock.

It doesn't seem like knock as he said it's a single thud and coming from closer to the drivers seat itself.
|
honestly, if you have to go up hill pretty hard for it to make a sound it's probably just pebbles kicking into your rear bumper. and small road imperfections just making it jump about. happens all the time for me if I'm near a dirt road, construction, etc.
edit, just read that it was a thud of some sort. do you drive an auto? I remember when I had an auto for my old g35 after some miles transmission started thudding every blue moon under different circumstances. |
Okay, the noise still exists and i cannot seem to figure out the issue. It occurs more periodically now and not just uphill.
Here's a better explanation. If I'm in 2nd, and i have low RPMS and i try and hi it hard, it'll sputter and sound maybe like a misfire coming from the exhaust. Then i feel it under the driver seat. It is like a thump or two and then catches itself and all is well. Anything over 3k -3500rpms and the noise will not do it. I have less than 40k miles and assure you it is not the engine knocking. I know what that sound is. Thanks for the help |
Used to have something similar on my 911s happen when the motor mounts got week. happened more off the line and into 2nd gear. once car caught up to itself it didnt happen. More load when going from standstill so maybe more load going up hill in the Z. My thud was in the back end but thats where the motor was. if your engine is flexing under that initial load, you might hear the thud - or if it causes things to twist then maybe it is twisting the exhaust pipes?
|
So, you think I should check my motor mounts first?
