What did you do with your Z today V (ON TOPIC DISCUSSION ONLY)

Not sure what the temp actually was yesterday, but the car was reading 100°+ on the gauge for all 3 sessions. I think ambient was more like low 90°s. An update on the duct I made… it was an improvement over my previous setup, because I “only” hit a max of 250-255°F in my first two sessions with similar driving on my end, despite the hotter weather. HOWEVER, I did turn traction control off for my last session (first time driving on track without it), went ~4sec faster, and hit 260°. Limp mode kicked in hard. So the duct helped a bit but I still have temp issues on a hot day with multiple “push” laps in a 20min session. It’ll only get worse the faster I get. Not sure if this is related.. but my oil temp gauge is a little jumpy at higher temps. It must be going bad. I’ll get that sensor replaced and hope I miraculously have lower oil temps haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

very nice! Yeah, the standard traction control programming on a NA Z is unnecessary on a track. One of these days I will take my Z back out there to try the ECUTEK settings in the wet. It was silly-good on the street with the limited testing I was able to do.

Some pics from my last track day. My best for the day was 2:02.3 Garmin was giving me an optimal of 2:01.0. So im definitely leaving some time out there. Sonoma Raceway has a tricky turn 2. I could not get that turn right. If i can figure it out I can definitely sub 2. Gonna see if i can hitch a ride with someone from advance group next time.

Gonna drop these parts and the car off to a shop on monday. Was highly considering doing this install myself. But a friend talked me out of it. So a local shop gave me a reasonable price on install. Exciting stuff.

Swapping the diff is not a big deal at all....but installing the LSD, and making sure to get the correct backlash and preload - that's a lot of work. A lot of hydraulic pressing in/out, a lot of measuring, a lot of machining of rings to get the adequate spacing..... in short, a lot of tedious work.

Got the old gal back from the shop today. He said the install was smooth and straight forward. He was more experienced with the Kaaz Lsd so when I told him about the short stubs he wasnt sure what that meant. So he called and spoke with Z1 and get correct info. Car honestly feels the same just driving it home from the shop. Maybe a little more whin from the diff. I have a small oil leak from the oil cooler so I didn't want to get on it. Gonna put some miles on it before I take it out on track.
Thanks to Charlie and the team at FTP!

That's what I'm worried about - the installation really is simple....but are you sure it's done correctly? Because that part is anything but simple.
There shouldn't be any whine from the diff. When you think about it, while normally rolling forward, there is virtually NO change anywhere - the pinion contacts the final drive, which rolls the whole unit, thereby turning both axles equally fast forward. The LSD is not working here at all - there's no need for it to work. So if there's noise....well then there's either incomplete tooth engagement, or incorrect backlash or preload. Anyhow, if you're happy with it, all good. I don't mean anything bad by the above. Is the LSD 1.5-way or 2-way? Does it come with the break in period? It might be a good idea to swap the oil after a thousand miles or so, just for peace of mind.

Not gonna lie. You are making me nervous. Taking away my excitement. But, its all good. The shop I took it to is Full Throttle Performance in Rancho Cordova. Looks like they are specialist in Nissan and Infiniti. He is the same guy that installed my Z1 anti starve kit. I think Wavetrac is 1.1 way. I dont know exactly. Maybe someone can chime in with the info. I would guess its similar to Quaife. As for break in, there shouldnt be any. But im taking it easy for the first 300 miles.

Yeah, my apologies if I'm taking away the excitement and adding to the nervousness, really not my intention.
I'm saying this because when I first did this installation myself, I reused the shims and put everything back as it was, and after hours of putting everything back together - it whined! So I had to REDO everything again, take everything apart until I had everything setup well, backlash and preload adjusted exactly, and then it was OK. Third time this was being done, was when I exchanged the final drive, but I was completely uninterested in doing that crap yet AGAIN, so I sent it to the specialist. And yes, it's completely silent. So, don't be nervous about it, but in case you can really hear it and it kinda whines, then you might wanna have it checked. Regarding "x-way" of the diff, that's cool. The main difference is that the 1.5 and 2 way especially, will lock up the diff when releasing the throttle and when coasting, which can make the car very tail happy unexpectedly. If you're into drifting, then maybe you really want that behaviour...but for normal LSD purposes, normal LSDs are better.
