After a very long drive home from work last night, I realized that I should really have my car dyno'd.

Gave her a good bath & polishing...including using the 3M kit to freshen up my head lamp lenses. Ah, the things you can accomplish when you're unemployed.

I'm not joking about this being a secret closed course either. A buddy of mine builds hot rods, has for many years, owns a LOT of land, and on this land he has an actual 3/8 mile track. Yes, 3/8 mile. It's out in the middle of nowhere in a neighboring town.

At any rate, he's working on his wife's new daily driver, a 2018 Mustang GT manual. About two weeks ago he just installed a Roush catback active exhaust including x-pipe as well as Roush intake. Still on the stock tune, exhaust manifolds and cats.

He contacted me at work yesterday afternoon and asked if I wanted to come out to his place since I haven't been there in a couple years. In his garage/shop, he has a mint '32 Ford, a '49 Ford pickup, and a '55 Chevy that he's currently working on. He also mentioned something about acquiring a '67 Hemi GTX. (my personal favorite since I was a wee kid)

Anyway, he asked me if I wanted to run on "his track" against the GT. Track?!?! I've known this guy for over 10 years, been out to his place like two or three times, and never knew about this track. Sure as heck, it's a track! Turns out it's a left over landing strip from some old, long defunked airfield from back in the 40's or 50's. Over the years, he's repaired, patched and resurfaced it and uses it for testing. I'm one of four people that now know about it, and told to keep its location secret.

Anywho, to make a very long story short, we did four pulls, two rolling starts at 30 mph in 1st gear, and two rolling starts at 50 mph in 2nd gear. With the 1st gear 30 mph rolling starts, I leaped ahead by a door length and pulled steady up to the top of 4th (120-ish) with him right past my rear bumper. With the 2nd gear 50 mph starts, he leaped about a door ahead, but once in 3rd, I slowly walked past him and he was at the back of my door at the end of 4th.

We were both honestly stunned at the outcome. Yeah, I know, curb weight, gearing, etc, etc, but still, that GT is 460 hp stock. No telling what kind of numbers it makes with the intake and exhaust. It sounds excellent though!

And I asked him if it would be alright to talk about this as long as I didn't say any names or hints to location. He said he was fine with that, hence why I didn't say anything at all last night on here.

You’re telling me! I got laid off in feb, and by April I dynamatted 50% of the car, heat wrapped the intakes, rebuilt and installed a 10w7, wetsanded my headlights, and installed coilovers, camber arms, and toe bolts haha

ChopsZ what performance mods do you have?

How do you feel about the Dynamatting? Two weeks ago I dynamatted and CCF'd the trunk, strut tower, interior rear wheel wells, body around the front wheels behind the plastics, and plastics themselves. Noticed much more of a difference with CCF than dynamat alone. Now I can run over a pebble and not think someone shot a .22 into my wheel well lol

So here’s what I’ve learned about dynamat, the thinner more dense stuff helps with chassis mounted noise, rattles, vibrations etc, while the thicker/foam type stuff helps more with “airborne” noises, exhaust, engine, road noise etc... I have a combination of the two and it works great. Though my exhaust is still very loud, but now I can at least have conversations in my car lol. (Gthaus full cat back, no resonators, with motordyne ART test pipes)

I dyno/hush matted my old car. I can honestly say the dampening of rain and pebbles against the chasis was a nice touch.

The new nismo i think has some i think... i know the exterior wheel well has a carpeted look on them... almost as if it came with the metal lined

All modern Z's have that, my 15 sport does. There are little updates that they didn't advertise.
