Which 370z to buy help needed
I'm going to get a z but torn which route to go, have 2 choices so here goes
1- I buy a 2010 sport, I'm a lightweight when it comes to mods, springs, axle back exhaust, big oil cooler, or 2- I buy a 2017 Nismo, yeah I know seems easy but do the newer models have enough advantages to make it worth the extra cash? |
2017 if you don't plan to mod. 2010 if you plan to mod.
|
2017 Nismo for sure!

This topic has been beaten to death; buried; dug up and beaten some more. Do a Google search and it will provide you with hours of forum discussion.
In sum, no one has ever purchased a Nismo and regretted it. They are beautiful cars. However, from a purely performance-to-dollar stand point, you can purchase the Z sport edition and with about $2,500 of mods get 90% of the performance of the Nismo for 1/5 the cost difference. |
How many miles on the 2010. Personally the car hasn't changed since it came out - so depending on price point and miles - I would lean toward the 2010

If you are going mod. a nismo you will waste your money, on the nismo auctions.
Go with the Nismo. |
How about an option like a 2013 or 2014 Nismo...they looked better in those years then the new ones...IMOP
And probably cost a bunch less mid 25k + |
Get a Nismo and you will not regret it when seeing a stock or base Z. Get a base Z and whenever you see a Nismo you will be kicking yourself on your 6. I get so many compliments on my Nismo(almost too many) and it's definitely more of a head turner

Get the 2017 Nismo. You don't have to worry about the steering wheel lock, it comes with a halfa$$ oil cooler, better seats, better looks.
|
I would also recommend getting a used Nismo due to the depreciation of the new model after just 1 year if possible

Nismo nismo nismo

Definitely Nismo. I would've never bought a Z if it wasn't for the Nismo edition.

I am sympathetic to the aversion to modding, speaking from experience. It's fine if modding your car is a hobby that you enjoy, but if you don't truly enjoy auto mechanics, it's a pretty certain pathway to at least some level of frustration. Additionally, in this case, we're talking about a used 2010 vs a new 2017. I agree that in those 7 years there have been no major changes but there have been a lot of little tweaks that have added some level of convenience and some level of increased reliability. I've seen that in the difference between my 2011 and my 2014. Additionally, you'll be driving a 7 year old car. Things are going to break with increasing frequency on any car that old. You'll not only have the cost of modding, you'll have the cost of repairs.
We are getting to the end-of-life of the Z34 platform. If there is going to be a Z35, you will shortly find your new Nismo with a major depreciation hit, one that you won't have with a 2010. If there's no Z35, that depreciation won't be that big a deal. Even so, if you plan to keep the car for awhile, say 3-5 years....buy the 2017. |
Get an 18' model,,,come's w/Chrome door handle's (that may be just the Heritage pkg.)
The Nismo will give you larger wheels, brakes & a performance suspension....+ has 350BHP vs. 332 on the other's...Un-sure about oil cooling on the 18' model. You may get the last ~Z~ car built for a while. |

I bought a 2015 Nismo last year and have not regretted it.
|
I personally can't stand the new Nismo's. They look like crap compared to the older ones. The only thing great you get are the Recaro seats. I would look for a 2012 to 2014 model year Nismo unmolested with no mods and low mileage. They can be found. For some reason folks like to get these cars, stick them in a garage and just look a them.

the 15+ nismos are absolutely amazing.
do it. do it. do it. i said i wouldn't mod.... but 500 miles in & i've already ordered an exhaust system:happydance: snappin' necks & droppin' panties |

Personally I prefer the earlier kit/wing/wheels, and the later black interior bits, seats, headlights, gearing, and nav option. |

2017 Nismo - $42k Better seats Better brakes 2016 Base Z - $28k Intake - $440 Exhaust - $1500 Tune - $900 Suspension - $800 Nismo wheels/new tires - $1300 Also lighter curb weight, no useless add-ons to pay for that I don't want (Bose stereo, active noise cancellation, NAV, rev-match, tiny display to tell you what gear you're in... Why?). 2016 Base Z with mods - $32,940 = Much more bang for buck, considerably more power, better sounding, better handling. Looks is a personal opinion, and I like both, so... My base Z simply walks away from my brother's 2016 Magma Sport and our neighbor's pearl white 2016 Nismo, both manuals. Not arguing, just saying. |
You forgot the better wheels, much better looking, the rarity, exhaust, all while being OEM and under warranty. Plus you have a Nismo, who doesn't like having something better. I also told him to grab a used one. No need to spend 42 grand on a new, worse looking Z

I'm confused why a 2010 vs a 2017? Between those two I guess a 2017 nismo but I can't imagine the price even being nearly the same so why is a 2013+ sport out of question? You'll get same oil cooler and with just an exhaust and tune same go as nismo with money to spare.
I guess I could go any way as I have loved every version of the 370z 2009, 2013, nismo and reg and the 2015+ nismo. I just find them all good looking in their own way. In terms of timeless design though I think 2013+ will have a look that will last (maybe biased as that's what I have). When shopping I liked the dang design more as it is more aggressive but then the 13 grew on me and looks like a more classic timeless look (300z big mantaray opening). |

If I could do it all over again, I would go and grab a lower mileage 2013-14 model. I agree with another poster here, the 2018 is suppose to be a new model with different look and feel - that being said, like any older model - the depreciation hit will suck. Just like I was able to score a good deal on my G35 coupe when the G37 coupes hit the market. Just my .02 Decided to look for a few cars (didn't care how far away from me) and came across 2 that I would consider if i was in the market now (the first one being what I would probably ultimately get) 2011 sport with touring - 16500 miles https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...6657/overview/ 2012 Nismo with 14000 miles https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...3241/overview/ To me, a new Nismo would be around $38-42....if you got the 2011, you would save yourself around $16k....put $5k aside and add front and rear sways/springs and an FI exhaust with a tune - I think you would come out ahead and not take the depreciation hit - add the low miles on that ride and I think you would be happier (at least I know I would be happier if I went that route LOL) Good luck to whatever you choose - the Z is a great car - it has it's faults but EVERY car has it's faults; all I know is that it puts a smile on my face whenever I take off and look to go for a drive. :) |
The Nismo has the same oil cooler as the other Z's. No different. The 2018 Z has not changed in looks or or anything else. Same car. It has chrome door handles, and some tape strips on the body. Seen it at ZDayZ.

I'm somewhat of an echo to most of these statements, but one thing I'll admit is that a lot of I want to do to my Z is getting a good share of the OEM Nismo parts. Of course, I'm not actually going to do that, but in hindsight I kinda wish I held out for a deal on a Nismo.
On another note, the 2018 Heritage Z supposedly runs a newer Exedy clutch. No idea if that implies anything regarding the CSC or is a noticeable upgrade of any sort. I'd doubt it if they still keep the goofy flywheel. |
