370Z or G37 coupe?

Just curious, but has anyone cross shopped between the 370Z vs G37 coupe before deciding on the 370Z? I'm kinda torn between the two. Mainly the 4 seats vs 2 because either may become my DD. Also if my wife and I decide on having kids soon... Luckily she drives a Highlander so she may ok the 370Z.

My boss currently drives an SSR and has kids. Even though his wife has an suv, it's still impractical and causes him grief on a monthly basis. While one car may seem like enough to tote everyone around, he has had lots of "surprise" issues pop up where he needs to pick up the kids from somewhere, or the other car goes into the shop for a while, and so forth. If you're thinking of having kids, spare yourself the pain. Just my .02

Gotta give us more info before we can help. +1 to frost though a sports car may not be an option with kids

I wasn't impressed with the G37 coupe when it launched.

I don't think there will be much difference in term of space between the 2 cars because the rear seats on the G coupe are quite useless. The trunk space will be bigger though.

I don't think I can have a 2 seater as a primary car if I were married. I'm single, and I'm still 10% unsure of if I want the Z to be a daily driver or not, lol.

I would have considered one for sure, but the closest dealer was in Portland, 100 miles away.

The Z seems like such a close competitor that it will cannibalize G sales, unless you are simply a brand snob and have to have the panache of a luxury marque.

if you want a dead quiet interior and very smooth ride, opt for the G.

bossman 01-09-2009 01:08 AM

nissan > infiniti

blacknbean 01-09-2009 02:12 AM

if your more into performance i would want the car that weights less

Married here, own a Honda Element, got the wife an Odyssey, and I'm going to keep the Z all for daddy. I would agree, without that second car with seating for more than two the Z might be tough with the little one's

My wife usually drives the Z. I more often drive an Expedition. We have 6 kids.

:(

Single person here but I did cross shop when I bought my 06 G35c. I chose the G for style and a better interior. I wasn't thrilled with some of the design elements on the 350. Notably the antenna sticking out and the stark plastic interior. The 370 has resolved these issues and it'll be the next car I get.

The G has room in the rear but its tight. You can probably get away with a Z since you have a bigger second car. But there might be times were you have to trade off with the wife and let her drive the Z while you take the other car depending on your schedules. So she needs to be a party in the decision making process b/c its inevitable that she'll be driving it as well. If you cross shop with her I can guarantee that she'll choose the G over the Z especially after noticing the rear seats of the G and the reported massive blind spots on the Z. So if your heart is set on the Z don't mention the G to her.

Very realist view there Frost! we all need to look at practicality of transportation first then the enjoyment.

wOOz: ya still gotta put into consideration the weather also. Not sure how the rainy season is in Bay but w/ a RWD, it would be a lil hassle... (worst in Snow, i'm not comparing but my long gone 240sx was terrible in Snow, so was my friends G35) overall, any RWD is not recommened IMHO when the weather is severe.

Thanks for all your input guys. Yeah, I agree a 2 seater with kids will probably be a no go so I may opt to keep my 05 Matrix for hauling kids when I have to and hopefully getting the Z as a "gotta have a sports car once in my life". Haha. Did check out the G37 coupe last year, and it is a nice car, will have to test the 370Z to compare, but am worried about the huge blind spot members have been talking about.

Out of my 19 cars in the last 9-ish years, I have a G35, and it's one of three cars I thought "maybe I shouldn't have gotten rid of that one." Very nice car. Quick, but not fast.

So true, and I relate. Of the 20 plus vehicles I've owned/leased, the Infiniti G35Coupe was by far the best. Man do I wish I hadn't leased it, or I would still have it today. I do like the G37, but it never looked as nice as the origial G35. Now the 370z, however, is better looking than all the Infiniti's, and more fun to drive. Glad I don't need a back seat...

The Geek 01-09-2009 09:28 PM

Do like me...buy a 2-seater now and worry about all of the non-important situations that might incure later on!

Have you considered Base + Sports package and use the 5 grand you saved with goin for the nissan (rather then g37) on a used four door daily driver?

sensi09 01-10-2009 03:29 AM

The G37 is nice, but for myself I'd choose and did choose a '07-08 350Z over it. So 370Z for sure in this case.

Again the G37 is nice, but something about it doesn't do it for me. I'd rather pay extra for a 335i or just get a used 335i in this segment.

msb3079 01-10-2009 03:59 PM

when i got my '04 G35 Coupe... I considered the 350Z... but didn't like it as much, wanted back seats, and hated the inside of the Z...
I leased an '08 G37 Coupe this past summer and love that as well.
With the new Z out (saw it in person today)... i LOVE it... I will probably be looking into that in a year and a half... only downside is less room and no room for the dog in the back.
Someone said that the back seats in the G are useless... no way... hard to get into, but comfortable for a full size male on a short drive. also the back can be folded down to fit plenty of things.... the Z - that's an issue.
It really depends on what you need as far as size goes... but looks and performance -- def the 370Z... G37 is a great car tho.
