Front Plates on the 370z

live in NJ where these are required.

any suggestions on front plates i could get that would help me avoid putting holes on my front bumber.

i did a search and came up with this product

has anyone used it on their Z, and if possible, can you share pics or videos.

thanks!

vipor 12-10-2009 02:56 PM

so, safe to say this is the best bet then, any pics? or vid's of how it looks

how is the installation process?

are these only purchased via this website?

thanks!

vipor 12-10-2009 03:04 PM

there is no installation, screws in where your tow hook goes

it's a stillen part, so that's probably the best place to get it.

honestly, there are probably more than few threads on here about it, search is your friend.

i did a search, before starting a new thread, and came up with nothing.

thanks for your help non the less.

Installation would be very easy. If you can put a rear plate on this is just a couple nuts and bolts more.

Have you been pulled over for no plate already?

G Fo12ce 12-10-2009 03:45 PM

I made another suggestion on this post for a place that makes a no holes mount:

no, i haven't.. though my car is only 2 weeks old and still has the temp plates on it.

i just went ahead and purchased the stillen one...

came to about $80 bucks, which i know is steep, but cheaper than a ticket (i think) and no need to drill any holes.

looks good!

vipor 12-10-2009 04:00 PM

THAT's the one i was looking for. saw his car in person a lil while ago

Red370 12-10-2009 04:14 PM

Texas requires one, had mine for 6 months and still havent put mine on, i keep it in my front seat and put it in the window for long drives, no trouble from the cops at all.

vipor 12-10-2009 04:22 PM

I haven't had any issues for no front plate ever. Had my 240's for a couple years and my Z now for almost 5 months, not even a second look from a cop passing by.

PapoZalsa 12-10-2009 08:34 PM

I HATE front license plate...and for me that is "sour subject" right now. Not only I have front license plate but the since the car was brought from another dealer the front bumper has two big azz holes in my front bumper underneath the plate frame, don't ask my why?

I'm working with the Store Manager but it look like I will have to put more pressure on him with the Corporate Office and/or BBB. I gave him a week to get back with me, will see.

molamann 12-10-2009 08:39 PM

Here's mine.

Other than the somewhat hefty cost, I highly recommend em. Surprisingly people have complimented the front plates also. lol

KillerBee370 12-10-2009 08:42 PM

Just zip tie it to the front grill.

I did the same – zipped tie it to the front grill.

Trim the plate to the plate’s indentation so the plate is small enough to fit right under the bumper. Add a couple of cross metal bars to top & bottom of the plate’s back to make it study by screwing them to them to the plate’s holes. Also use big rubber washers to prevent the plate scratching the car. Then tie it to the front grill with zip tie through the cross bars.
Will take pictures and post them this afternoon.

Visited dealer on other matter today. He had two beautiful black screws he used to fill the front plate holes in the front bumper. And no charge! Now I'm happy!

IHas370Z? 12-16-2009 12:43 AM

4 months and counting, lack of front plate has yet to be an issue (knock on wood). I've had cops drive by slowly with a clear view of the front, always prepared to be pulled over lol.

sensi09 12-16-2009 01:26 AM

retractable front plate

No front plate on my G in Dallas for 6 years. No problems. Did get one speeding ticket and the cop didn't even mention it.

Yeah I've been hassled about it once forever ago, but never ticketed. I got some tickets at a street racing raid in lewisville when I was 19 for Racing, Driving on the wrong side of the road, No insurance (had it, just not with me), and Bald tires! No ticket for no front plate though

As promised, pictures

I just think the front plate ruins the look of the car from the front, you couldnt pay me to put one on, and BTW, Papo, those holes look awful, just awful, I feel your pain.

I'm taking the car back to the dealer to get it fix. I told the store manager I want a Brand new painted factory bumper plus my kick plates. Will take it to the dealer new week and get a loaner.

TongMan 07-16-2010 11:08 AM

a fix it ticket is $35 here in CA...I'm thinking about saving that $35 and doing the zip tie method. That retractable front plate was cool, but I wonder how difficult it would be to install.

zcar_dad 07-16-2010 11:39 AM

I use the Stillan 370Z version on my Nismo. We had to add 7 inches in the middle to have clearance of the extended nose. Take it off for track days and autocross.

TongMan 07-17-2010 06:41 AM

I'm curious to know that since the plate is covering a majority of the grille opening, wouldn't that restrict air flow to the radiator?

sonic370 07-17-2010 07:26 PM

when i bought mine new told dealer to leave off the front bracket and all.
hell they had already put there stupid decal underneath the rear spoiler.

so anyway car looks a lot cooler imo then with it stuck on there.
but it is not legal here. been 3 months so far no issues.

The tow hock is mounted off center on passenger side and the plated screws into it. Still plenty of air flow for radiator and also the power steering cooler.
When I add an oil cooler it mounts on the driver's side.

imag 07-19-2010 11:13 PM

The bastards in Berkeley ticket me for the plate every time I park there. I just keep paying the tickets - one today, in fact. The plate would just look like Bugs Bunny's teeth on this car. I'm still under $100 worth of tickets after over a year, and it's worth it not to have to ruin the look of a car I pay $600 a month for.

That retractable plate is awesome >)

steveg78 07-20-2010 12:01 AM

4mo of flying below the radar with mine too. If I get pulled over I'm just gonna say "Hey I'm moving to a state that doesn't require a front plate in 2 months....Would you want to drill 2 holes in the bumper for that"? If they ticket me so be it...If they give me a fix-it ticket. I'll stall till I move and see what they say then :P

Lemers 07-20-2010 12:04 AM

I have the stillen. I love it. No holes in the bumper. One less reason to be pulled over. No add on tickets.

Mt Tam I am 07-20-2010 10:11 AM

I too have the stillen, but have never used it. I only have it in garage if the fateful day ever comes when I need to fix a ticket then take it off again.

Vegitto-kun 07-20-2010 10:41 AM

Lol the law here says that we HAVE to have a front license plate thus every single car comes here with a fornt license plate holder.

So yeah

Lemers 07-20-2010 10:44 AM

Same here must display plate to the front and rear. Mine came with a front plate holder...in the trunk!

Vegitto-kun 07-20-2010 12:34 PM

well mine was a demo car so it already had the front holder on.

Cunnos 07-20-2010 01:04 PM

dont worry about it, ive lived in MA for 11 years and have never had an issue with a front plate. Just keep the plate in your car, when you get pulled over tell them you were going to buy screws to put it on. I also think that putting on a front plate makes he car look terrible. The lower lip makes the car look bad A$$........dont ruin it.......no plate

Vegitto-kun 07-20-2010 01:05 PM

If I could I wouldn't have a front plate but we HAVE to >_>;

Cunnos 07-20-2010 01:15 PM

same thing with MA, the law says you have to have a front plate, but they also say you have to wear a seatbelt, but they rarely pull people over for not wearing one. un screw the plate holder and put the plate in your car.

Now, even though the police in Belgium really don't bother you unless you're doing something badly wrong, they would deffo stop you for not having your front number plate. In fact, we don't have countries in Europe where you can just take the front plate off. it's a major break of the law in Europe and you WILL get stopped for it (eventually).

I think that you'd get away with it in MA cause some states in America don't have plates at the front and therefore it wouldn't shock people so much if they didn't see the plate. Here, it would stick out like a sore thumb :tiphat:.
