2014/2017 Oil/Water Cooler
 

Guys,
Anyone out there with a 2014/2017 370Z, Base - Nismo, that has the oil to water heat exchanger? I am wondering if it is enough for sport driving. I have had various cars/bike that used the oil/water cooling, and it worked great. Does it work on the 370Z, is it enough?

I think they are stock from 2005-up on most Nissans. My 06 Xterra has it and I'm assuming my 2017 370 Nismo also has it. Haven't looked physically, but it is depicted in the 2016 Service manual. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are talking about the unit that the oil filter is screwed into?

Haven't proven mine yet, but many have reached high oil temps in hot southern climates or track/racing or while pushing hard.

Personally, I've never been a fan of fluid exchange type coolers. Can lead to many potential problems. Air/oil, air/water is my preference. If you get a crack internally, you will exchange water/coolant into the oil system. Nissan did this with the Automatic transmissions of Frontiers and Xterra's to horrendous results. The radiator portion cracked, allowed water to ingress transmission fluid, and ultimately destroying $3000 transmissions.

Many have gone with the Z1 Setrab oil cooler install and have reported drastic oil temp reductions. I believe it too. I believe it will also "loop" the water portion of the original oil/water cooler.

I looked at it just because it was OEM, and the NISMO had it. What I have been trying to buy is the HKS oil cooler adapter, without buying a kit. Theirs is the nicest one, with a temp switch. I'm going to call a few HKS shops tomorrow. I can build the rest of the cooler setup, I used to be in NASCAR, it's no big deal. Pegasus has all the Setrab coolers in stock, $200/$300. A few AN oil lines, and it's done. Probably more trouble to pull the front ABS off than anything.

For everyday driving depending on where you live it does OK. For track driving, Tail of the Dragon driving it is terrible. Motul makes a thermostatic plate. Make sure you get that. Since you are in Wi, you may be able to get away with a smaller cooler. Use the search function, it is your friend. All 370z's came with it starting in 2012.

I removed mine... if you are looking for one. Just haven't gotten around to posting it in the classifieds.

The oil/water. They are called heat exchangers. The best beat is to remove this and install a Mocal thermostatic plate with an air/oil Setrab cooler.

I have a spare non thermostatic sandwich plate if you need one.

I ordered a Z1 therm. adapter plate the other day. It will be here Thursday. I also ordered a Setrab series 6 oil cooler from Pegasus Racing Equipment in Wisconsin, along with 12 feet of -10 line and 2, 90 degree AN fittings. I'm hanging the cooler slightly to the left side, on the cross aluminum bumper, that I'm welding a cooler frame on. It gets the cooler away from being right up next to the water radiator, and pre-heating the air to it. I'm using the Setrab mounting brackets, which are nice parts. It will be done by the weekend.
