Default Manual Transmission acting like an automatic?

Today when I was pulling out of a parking lot, I put my car in first gear and started it up. When I took my foot off the gas pedal, I was expecting the car to slow down, but instead the car kept moving like an automatic transmission car. I stopped the car and put it in neutral. I then put the car into first gear and expected the car to stall when I did not hit the gas pedal. The car started moving like an automatic car, hitting the gas for me.

I drove home and tested the car in my neighborhood (about a 5 minute drive). The car was acting normal and I could not reproduce the problem.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Is it a problem if the car won't stall from a complete stop, you shift into first gear, and release the brake?

Yeah, I had the car turned off for about 7 hours and it happened right when I turned the car on.

^That's what it sounds like!
See if it does the same thing after the car has warmed up.

The problem did not happen when my car had warmed up on the way home. Is it normal for the car to not stall from a cold start?

On a cold start the ECU bumps the idle RPM higher than when warm... up to around 1k rpm or so. That explains why the car continued moving when you let off the throttle... the higher idle was pulling it along.

after the other cold start comments I realized that i am doing this right out of the driveway.
but it only does it when i ease off the clutch in 1st gear really slowly w/ no gas.
