US consumers are price sensitive and it is also the largest. One way to get around this is to to build more factories here in the homeland. It already being done and the sign if the times. Bravo...a long time coming. I wouldn't mind if my Z35 is 100% American built by a regular Joe in Tennessee. How 'bout you?

I'm from j-land (pops brought me here long time ago and already left after he retired) and I decided to stay in the USA.. I luv it here, no way in hell I can have 4 cars all paid off no mortgage no credit card debt and still have money to spare at my age in j-land.

will probably move back when I'm about to croak though.

From all the vehicles I bought that were assembled in the USA or Mexico, there has not been one car (including j-car) with zero big issue..
but my GTI I bought last year, thing is probably better dan their Germany made GTI's. no issue!

I didn't give a political opinion. I just reported a potential change in the automotive industry relative to a potential tax increase. That increase May possibly effect the availability of certain cars in this country. As thin of a line the discussion is.... it's not a political one. As long as we refrain from identifying parties. The way I see it is we have been sending a lot of our industry to other countries, which helps them. We also important their goods with no tariffs, which also helps them. These same countries do little to nothing for us. They impose huge trade tariffs on our goods in their country, which largely keeps our goods from being sold in those countries.

Now if we can come to a deal that is mutually beneficial, then maybe imports won't be marked up for sale here in the US. One hand washes the other kinda thing.

I have long thought we should mirror tariff policy of any country we deal with. The fact that we have a trade-in deficit is ridiculous. The flip side is to make it more profitable for our manufacturers to make the products we import so cheap. Stuff will cost more, but that money is staying in our country.

I " liked " this & agree but...... ( there's always a but ) I've had 2 Japanese Maxina's and 1 domestically made Max. and the home grown one is good, but just not as. The first 2 went 260,000 & 212,000 ( hit a deer, totaled ) I'll drive this one till the wheels fall off, or the passenger seat falls through the floor as the floor board, has severely rotted, Seems to be a huge problem with first gen. domestic Max and Altima's IMHO there's a quality difference.

Final thought:
If the price sky rockets, or Nissan decides to stop production ( due to slow sales or whatever ) wouldn't the value of our Zs begin to escalate as time goes on?

It's possible.
We are a very niche market, thought.
How much is a, say, 80's Z worth today? Do you want to wait 40 years for the value to go back up? Right now, the value of our cars is dropping on the dealer's lot. If you wanted an investment, mothball one with 100 miles on it until 2050. Just, sayin'.
