winter storage jack stand points

tried googling but to no avail..
i have four jack stands to store the car but the web says i should place them on the suspension so it doesnt ruin it. does anybody know where and which part of the suspension i can leave it on?

check out the hibernation threads. I don't think too many use jack stands any more. I sure don't, not for hibernating.

I don't use jackstands for my hibernating cars. Any reason why you wanted to use jackstands?

Yeah, jackstands would leave the suspension in an odd position for a while. Maybe the concave tire stands to help prevent flat spotting?

The thought is probably to avoid flat-spotting the tires. In that case put the jackstands under the A-arms so the weight of the car is resting on the suspension as it would normally. The better answer is don't bother because you can achieve the same result by rolling your car forward 12" after a month or so and then rolling it back after another month. Repeat as necessary.

Now a days new tires will not flat spot that quickly, I have been storing cars for 10+ years and never had an issue. Years ago when I started I had the same worries but was enlighten by someone more knowledgeable and experienced that all would be fine for the 5-6 months of storage without lifting the car. Maybe if you were storing it for years then yes lift it or moving periodically. But honestly, even when I used storage facilities, like the barns or warehouse units before my current house with a garage, I never had any issue with my Z32 or Z34 and I would leave them there without going back or having them moved or touched.


you'll be fine just wash it, disconnect the battery and cover it up

Don't worry about flat spots in the tires, they will recover within a few miles of driving. Make sure the fuel tank is full to minimize moisture formation, the parking brake is disengaged (for manual transmission, chock the car or park it in gear), and a float charger is connected and powered if possible.

While it's not really necessary for 3-6 months of storage - as others have said, any flat spots will quickly disappear once the tires warm up a little bit (unless you have very soft tires) - there is nothing wrong with putting stands at the appropriate places on the suspension. Not worth the effort unless you plan on inspecting the bottom while the car is in storage (not a bad idea).

As per POS VETT, topping off the tank and using a float charger are more important. Disconnecting the battery cable will clear the on-the-fly tuning params and the car will probably run a little rough for a few minutes while it re-learns. Plus, batteries like to be fully charged for greatest longevity.

I have been storing mine for the winter in my garage since 2011 and I still have the factory tires. I only have 17,000 miles on my 09 Z, so it has spent most of its life parked and the tires have never flat spotted.

I suggest washing it, hooking the battery to a tender and covering it with a quality cover for the winter.
