The thought is probably to avoid flat-spotting the tires. In that case put the jackstands under the A-arms so the weight of the car is resting on the suspension as it would normally. The better answer is don't bother because you can achieve the same result by rolling your car forward 12" after a month or so and then rolling it back after another month. Repeat as necessary.
