How many miles is too much for buying a new car?
Just curious, if you are buying a new Z, how many miles on it already is acceptable for you? Some won't take it if over 200, 150, 100, 50 miles. i think this is more of a personal reference, but i just like to hear it.

Down to personal preference. If the car has over 50-100 miles I think you should be able to work a little bit off the price.
|
i would say over a hundred i guess, thats a couple of test drives by somebody
|
300 is my mark. My Z had 17.
|
It's how ever many you're willing to accept. ;]
But here is a thread of the miles on the cars when owners picked them up, it may help: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ter-miles.html |
I wouldn't take any Z that was parked in the parking lot, I was lucky enough to find the one of my dream LOL silver, brand new off the transport into the showroom so it hasn't even witnessed the outside parking lot. I was going to have them order one for me if not for the one in the show room. Personally, you think people that go to test drive these cars are going to just baby it under 45 MPH? I believe when I test drove one the sales person next to me even said "go ahead! push this car, it's super fast you should step on it to witness it!" and of course I did bring it up to like 70-80mph in 3rd gear and also did a pull on 2nd gear. So honestly I wouldn't take any cars over 20mi on the odo meter. Unless they're gonna give you a killer discount. This is a Z guys, people don't baby it when they test drive it.

yeah, i had mine ordered in and told the salesmen to park this thing away from the customers. if i am buying new, i'm buying new

Yeah, I prefer low miles too. But for example my car is being transfer from another dealer outside the state.
|
my z had 21 miles, after my test drive.
|
After my test drive my Z had 48 miles on it - pretty much at the limit I would accept without negotiating some sort of discount or freebie.
|
mine had 90 miles on it
|
My limit is about 200-300 miles. Mine had less than one hundred on it.
|
I would say no more than 100 or I'd want something off on the car. Mine had 7 I was the only test driver.
|
my car had 7 miles on it too and i wouldn't want more than 50 or so. suv's i could care less under 250 but faster cars are test driven too hard
|
EVERYONE prefers lower mileage. The reality is that some folks aren't willing to wait for a special ordered car and would rather get their rear-ends in the driver's seat of whatever is available.
I was very torn with my Z initially. It had a tick over 300 miles on it and the sales manager of the dealership had his name programmed into the 1st bluetooth phone entry. He must have been driving it as his personal car for a while. I finally decided that since it was exactly what I wanted and the only one in the area, I was buying it. Knock on wood, but it's been a fantastic car thus far. I've just hit 7,000 miles and I couldn't be happier. I'm also glad I didn't miss out on three months of enjoying the car while I waited for another one to be produced and delivered. |
Warranty
Remember, the more miles on it when you purchase it, the less miles you have toward your warranty.

Wow high miles here, My RSX-S had 4 miles. My buddy's had 6 and he told the dealership his max was 10.
|
Imo, if you're buying a new car you should be buying a new car. Anything over 15-30ish is grounds for taking a few bucks of the price.
|
missed the point.

My 2003 350Z had 6.7mi at delivery. It came off the transport while I was there, and I waited while the dealer inventoried, and prepped - so no joy riding by anyone prior to me taking her home.
6-8 mi is typical depending on transport/train, and boat routes from the factory. Some can have closer to 12-15 mi if they where track tested at factory prior to shipment. Most manufacturers do this although I don't know the frequency - 1 out of every 10 or 20 cars maybe? dunno. Anything over 50 miles is a price negotiation point for me, as it is an indicator of multiple test drives and the likely hood that its been close to redline - which is a no-no for engine break in. |
I've bought 2 new cars with 300 miles + on them. Both were driven in from other dealers and were exactly what I wanted. In one case they went to get the car for me, in the other, i just got lucky. These are typically shuttled in by older retired guys. No big deal.

Now if I walked in and was told 370zSteve was going to be shuttling it, I'd leave ASAP! |
max ive taken a 'new' car was 3000miles. it was a dealer demo with all the bells and whistles. didnt feel like waiting 3months. really depends how bad you want it and price.
my z had like less than 5 miles i think. the odo registration was 6 miles or something when i bought it. i test drove the car i bought in the dealer lot. i test drove another color in the same day so just drove mine to make sure everything was working. this is when i noticed my car didn't have that high pitched noise. |
