EVERYONE prefers lower mileage. The reality is that some folks aren't willing to wait for a special ordered car and would rather get their rear-ends in the driver's seat of whatever is available.

I was very torn with my Z initially. It had a tick over 300 miles on it and the sales manager of the dealership had his name programmed into the 1st bluetooth phone entry. He must have been driving it as his personal car for a while. I finally decided that since it was exactly what I wanted and the only one in the area, I was buying it. Knock on wood, but it's been a fantastic car thus far. I've just hit 7,000 miles and I couldn't be happier. I'm also glad I didn't miss out on three months of enjoying the car while I waited for another one to be produced and delivered.

Cool Warranty

Remember, the more miles on it when you purchase it, the less miles you have toward your warranty.

NOT TRUE!!! The miles on your 3 yr/36,000 miles factory warranty starts the day the car is deliver and you take posession of the car. So if you car had 300 miles on it, your warranty ends at 36,300 miles or 3yr from the purchase date.

Imo, if you're buying a new car you should be buying a new car. Anything over 15-30ish is grounds for taking a few bucks of the price.

Ya but it "witnessed" the outside storage area, complete with nice salty air, as it waited to be loaded onto a ship, transported across a rather large body of saltwater for a week, unloaded (and stored outside next to that same pesky large body of saltwater) before it was loaded onto a truck and transported (possibly in a rainstorm or two) to your dealer.

My 2003 350Z had 6.7mi at delivery. It came off the transport while I was there, and I waited while the dealer inventoried, and prepped - so no joy riding by anyone prior to me taking her home.

6-8 mi is typical depending on transport/train, and boat routes from the factory. Some can have closer to 12-15 mi if they where track tested at factory prior to shipment. Most manufacturers do this although I don't know the frequency - 1 out of every 10 or 20 cars maybe? dunno.

Anything over 50 miles is a price negotiation point for me, as it is an indicator of multiple test drives and the likely hood that its been close to redline - which is a no-no for engine break in.

I've bought 2 new cars with 300 miles + on them. Both were driven in from other dealers and were exactly what I wanted. In one case they went to get the car for me, in the other, i just got lucky. These are typically shuttled in by older retired guys. No big deal.

I "interviewed" the guys that were potentially going to shuttle my car from a nearby dealership (100+ miles). Old, retired men that enjoy driving and making some extra money. As scared as I am about the possibility of having a driver like the one in Ferris Bueler's Day Off ride my car 100+ miles, I felt confident that they would have driven it conservatively.

Now if I walked in and was told 370zSteve was going to be shuttling it, I'd leave ASAP!

max ive taken a 'new' car was 3000miles. it was a dealer demo with all the bells and whistles. didnt feel like waiting 3months. really depends how bad you want it and price.

my z had like less than 5 miles i think. the odo registration was 6 miles or something when i bought it. i test drove the car i bought in the dealer lot. i test drove another color in the same day so just drove mine to make sure everything was working. this is when i noticed my car didn't have that high pitched noise.
