If Americans only buy American goods why should any other country purchase goods made in America?

Anyhow, fortunately most people disregard this policty and buy goods based on quality, pricing and performance, as opposed to the country the goods are produced.

It stems from the idea that the US used to be a leading manufacturer...and this slogan was formed when there were closing of US Steel mills and other manufacturing businesses moving outside the USA, mostly due to EPA regulations making it cost more to do business here, and they couldn't compete...but the idea was to spend money, even if it is more, on US made items to keep our economy strong and keep the manufacturing companies that made WWII winable, here. (Imagine if we had WWII next week - we can barely keep up with the "war" in Iraq (and now Afganistan) we have now...)

To try and do that today is next to impossible, as most of the items we buy have parts that come from outside the USA, even if they are assembled here.

Also, most people purchase based on perceived value, ie, bang-for-buck.

The Z is a great example of it - in terms of performance cars, it's got the best bang-for-buck of any other performance car out there.

By the way. Nissan has a huge plant in alabama n the produce quite a few models there. I believe most infiniti's are built here as well. Between nissan honda and toyota they have more plants here than GM does. Pathetic

I believe Nissan makes the Ultima and Maxima there. Probably whatever cars are the same platform as those with Infiniti as well.

Smart business to have the plant here for the better-selling cars. Still, the GTR and Z are MIJ. In a sense, that says they don't trust the US to make the higher-end stuff. =/

Even China is putting out good quality stuff on the cheap.

From a manufacturing perspective, the US is screwed...

Even from the services side of things - short of billy-bob making house calls, the growing trend is to outsource phone-based-services - india, france, phillipines...

I know they are cancelling the magnum and are considering either the 300 or charger. Crazy!

The magnum has been gone for a couple of years, I believe.

Um...Yup...

You're probably too young to remember the quality of the VW product coming out of Westmoreland PA..... Unfortunately they built em just like the Americans were in '73-74..

I thought the engine in the Camaro is the same as what's in the corvette?

If that's the case, then it's built in Canada (unless GM has two plants for engines...in which case that would be stupid)

Perhaps you meant Hyundai. They built a large plant in Montgomery, AL to build the Sonata, and maybe the Santa Fe. I think Nissan has plants in TN.

The way manufacturing works I seriously doubt anything made today is from any one place. Designs are often done in one country, bits and pieces in another, raw materials from another and the actual assembly in another.

That doesn't bother me one bit as long as I get a quality product.

Let me see how the US system works. I have a serious medical condition but my particular health insurance provider does not agree with the diagnosis and hence does not honour my claim. Result? Increased profits at the expense of my good health! Not true you say? Well, neither are your observations about Canadian medicare. But I will give you a fact: all +30M Canadians can walk into any emergency room, at anytime, anywhere in Canada and get to see a doctor regardless of how serious their condition is. Yes, our taxes pay for this burden but I don't have a problem with that. Neither do the citizens of most western European countries and their free health care. Sorry for going off topic.

So the bottom line is....

Cars are made everywhere. Whatev's.. regardless, not too much can be done (without proper leadership getting off of their a$$'s) about the state of our countries manufacturing market.

I vote we all get Vespa's and hang out in poetry coffee houses. :bowrofl:

While it may seem trivial, GM's claiming that the Camaro is an American Muscle Car....yet it's not made in the United States. I mean, if you consider American to mean the North American continent, then sure...even then that's kind of sly.

Yeah but the aim of American advertisting has ALWAYS been to pull the wool over our eyes and pretend that we live in a "utopian" society where all of our own sh!t is better because it's "American". Nothing new here.

The bottom line here is the almightly dollar (I use the term "allmightly" loosely in this case). As long as we (Americans) are a money driven society, this will always be the case. Unfortunately it has very little to do with pride anymore and everything to do with greed.

I don't really have anything against any car manufacturer. Honestly, cars to me have been getting uglier and uglier over the past decade. They make the headlights bigger and goofier by the minute. Soon enough, the front end of cars will just be a big headlight.

I'm a sexy car kind a guy. Give me a 1998 Vr-4 brand new... and I'll take that over a Z even, just cause it looks soooo dammmmmnnn gooood!

All cars to me nowadays are crap. I even like the old 300zx better than the new Z...

BMW went downhill when they hired an American guy to design the new series:shakes head:...

The Lexus RX300 which was a very sexy car in 2004 looks like a rich bitch wife car now.

The 1996 Chrysler Concorde LXI that had finesse and good lines turned into a big bumble bee piece of crap that looks like a bathtub on wheels.

The 90's Eclipse was nice.. then the next to models are ugly.

Man... it's depressing what happened to cars in the past decade or so. So, what I'm trying to say is screw all car manufacturers for making all these ugly cars that I don't want to buy!

I just wanna see more sports cars. I want honda to stop the wackness n make a true rwd sport COUPE.
I want them to put a worthy interior in the camaro. I want mustang to kill the live axle n step into century 21. I want nissan to bring back the silvia. I want toyota to bring the FT-86. I like it! Alota h8rs on it! But its carrying a torch that needs to be carried.
Plus I want the sports cars we have already. I want bimmer to build cars that look the part as well as play the part. I love sports cars, muscle cars, and performance cars. I'm tired of 4door sports cars, sport crossovers, sport utility vehicles! I'm sick of cars with the word sport and no sport in the way it drives.
Lastly I want hyundai's genesis to have a competitive auto tranny to nissan and volkswagen. That's the only thing holding back hyundai automatic sports cars. The tranny is weak in them.

whenever I see an "S" stamped onto the end of whatever model car it is, I just chuckle a little. Unless it's a Porsche Turbo S.

My kids will point it out on an RSX or Corolla and I will just say it stands for "Slow" ;)
