Even the vette plant is in canada. I saw a documentary on corvettes in the speed channel. More american cars are built in canada, mexico germany and australia. Its so stupid. People don't realize that the auto industry is a world market now. So there's no longer any patriotism in making cars anymore. The only thing we can thank america for is taking an original opel car and cheapening the interior, rims and treatments to the point of disgust.
By the way. Nissan has a huge plant in alabama n the produce quite a few models there. I believe most infiniti's are built here as well. Between nissan honda and toyota they have more plants here than GM does. Pathetic

lol.....a little OT, but when people say "buy america" and drive off in their dodge...little do they realize that they are helping mercedes benz :tiphat: ....

Mercedes divorced them in the beginning of the year. In early summer FIAT became 60% owners of chrysler. They are supposed come out with a new slew of compact cars in 2011.
I know they are cancelling the magnum and are considering either the 300 or charger. Crazy!

If everyone only bought goods produced in their own country, much of America would quickly be unemployed.

If Americans only buy American goods why should any other country purchase goods made in America?

Anyhow, fortunately most people disregard this policty and buy goods based on quality, pricing and performance, as opposed to the country the goods are produced.

Also.... they have a quota system. When I lived there, a doc had to see so many patients a year and they all made the same money. Boom! Meet your quote 3 months before the year is over? You get yourself a nice vacation and tell your patients 'buh-bye.' See you next year!

Not quite.... doctors bill out per client to Medicare. They don't all make the same money. Were you in Canada or Russia?

Regardless of your finacial well being, race, colour or creed all Canadian's are entitled to equal care. That means the single mom with three kids can still get the medical care she requires. That's while paying roughly the same income taxes as her equivalent in the USA. So in fact in the USA YOU are paying out of pocket. Granted the wealthy can get quicker medical care in the USA than your average Canadian who may be required to wait for non-emergency care.

Huh? The Corvette is made in Bowling Green Kentucky.

Chevrolet Corvette - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:

The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car that has been manufactured in six generations since 1953 by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. The first Corvette was designed by Harley Earl and named by Myron Scott after the ship of the same name. Originally built in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, it is currently built at a GM assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The National Corvette Museum and annual National Corvette Homecoming, also located in Bowling Green, celebrate the car's world-wide history.

I agree with you. What you are saying is right. It is a global economy these days and it has always been that way since the States decided to buy and sell globally all made possibly by container ships, freight trains, and cargo planes. Once the States stops doing business with the rest of the world then the money flow stops dead in it's tracks.

Also Canada is the States closest ally right now. We need Canada just as much as Canada needs us. It's not a safe/secure world out there. If we band together with Canada we will be a whole lot stronger and unconquerable then if we were both to have just kept to ourselves as isolationists.

Lastly for those who don't like Canada. My suggestion to them is to at least visit and experience the place first if you haven't yet. You would be very impressed when you see Banff, Vancouver, Toronto, the W.Edmonton Mall, and places like Quebec and Nova Scotia. It's actually quite friendly, warm and inviting.

As of today I would never buy a car from Mexico since that country still isn't known for quality cars just yet. The VW Jetta diesel is made there. Which is too bad since I like that car. All the previous VWs made in Mexico were full of problems galore. I should know because my friend had a VW newbeetle from there and it was put together improperly. As a matter of fact after it got hit in an accident, the body shop put the side view mirror back on the correct way compared to before when it was brand new. So they went ahead and fixed the other mirror as well.

Yet, not everybody follows my example. The other year the best selling car in Canada was a Mazda 3 which is made in Mexico. It's a popular car in Canada because of the cheap starting price. Making it more competitive with other cars.

The G8 is a Holden (Aussie GM) design. Has been long before it was brought here, it's not a new car design.

The woes of the US manufacturing base are not confined to the auto industry, it is a problem many decades old.

Absurd union contracts as well as management failure have pretty much ruined our economy. There can be no sound economy without a manufacturing base. We can't survive on the service sector alone. We cannot survive if everyone is working at Wal Mart. Our politicians are inept and do not ave the skills, the balls or the intelligence to fix the problem. :shakes head:

Link for that statement? Just because you know one guy who had a problem with one car you label the entire industry as faulty? :shakes head:

You're probably too young to remember the quality of the VW product coming out of Westmoreland PA..... Unfortunately they built em just like the Americans were in '73-74..

chief_Roka 12-02-2009 12:25 PM

Yes sir... my bad. I checked and it is built un KY. The show I saw did roll one out from a canadian plant though. But maybe it was rolled out as a GM pride thing. Either way I found an interesting article on the global car market.

How do you tell which car is more American? - USATODAY.com

The Camaro is based on the same (Zeta) platform as the G8/Holden Commodore. In fact, the Camaro was developed by Holden in Australia and the exterior design is by a Korean guy. How's that for an "American Muscle car" ;)
