waste of time, or worth it?
Hi Guys,
new owner here with the first engine start button equipped car. With my previous cars, i would turn my key to ACC mode so that the car gets some electricity first, then turn the engine on. I heard this would help with the longevity a bit. Is this step necessary for 370z? or Does any of you guys do this with 370z? I know this is not a first world problem, but i am just curious. |

Nope, I don't do it. I might start the car, drive with a soft foot till the car gets warmed up, etc. I don't see how turning the electricity on helps longevity. My understanding is that warming up the engine before revving it up too high helps longevity.

Waste of time. Let the car idle until you hear the engine quiet down. Keep a light foot until the car is fully warmed up.
Edit: I usually wait until about 2-3 dots before driving off under 60°F. |

Where did you hear that? It's the inrush current that causes the most damage (why incandescent light bulbs frequently burn out when you turn them on) and that's going to happen every time you power up. Unlike an ICE or vacuum tubes, solid state electronics do not have to warm up.

i am really surprised by the responses i am getting.
I would fully understand if you guys say it is not a necessary step, but has no one really heard about putting the acc mode on first before the engine startup? |

I've heard about it for cars with large aftermarket fuel pumps so they can prime, but not because of any reason relating to electricity.

^ what he said
Actually I used to do this too. On my old stock 240sx, I would actually hear the fuel pump turn on in ACC mode. Doing that made a slightly easier start up since fuel pump is already on. But it doesn't increase longevity

I've seen cars where you needed to wait a few seconds before starting but, as mentioned above, this was due to glow plugs warming up, fuel pumps priming, etc, and had nothing to do with the electrical system.

Been working with cars for about 6 years and that's enough time to hear almost everything about a car. Some guy up top has 40 years experience. Don't know who told you that but they're totally wrong lol. I wouldn't take car advice from whoever said that. |

Idle till engine quiets down, drive with a soft foot and wait till oil temp reaches 180 before flooring it I have heard about people that do what the OP mentions, but never had a solid explanation as to why.

It does help to do this in my '97 Maxima. As was mentioned above, if the car has been sitting an hour or more, it takes time for the fuel pump to pressurize the system and start it up. But otherwise, it starts right up. I notice this only on my Maxima. Our Acura, 370z and Ford F-150 always start right up with no delay required. YMMV. Hmmm, maybe I should check my fuel filter...ya think?
