car insurance
has anyone been able to get a custom coverage to cover your turbos, body work...ect? i called just about every car insurance there is...and all i get is 'hell no' places like hagerty will only insure classics.

Your on your own for the most part unless it is not your fault. Always been that way. It is best to keep all of your stock parts, just in case. I made out OK by doing that.

Your best bet is to make sure you do your research on the manufacturer providing the parts/kit and the shop doing the work and find one that is legit and willing to stand behind their work. I doubt you're going to find a warranty that will cover a bad tune or shop incompetence for aftermarket turbo installs or even random failure of parts. Some insurance might cover aftermarket body kits, but they won't cover the labor to make sure the panels are all fitted properly or custom body work.

Coverage for breakdown of aftermarket parts? Yeah that's pretty much going to be a hell no from anyone. There are only places that cover stock vehicle mechanical breakdown insurance. Now if you want your aftermarket parts covered if there is an accident or other loss, most places do, GEICO does. You just give them a declared value or documentation of costs (receipts) and they increase your rate accordingly, most by default cover $500. I think it's called "Coverage for custom parts and equipment (CPE)"

Did you talk to Hagerty? I'm going through the same thing wanting to raise value to include current install of TT and future mods. They told me they would cover "Tuner Cars" There are some minor stipulations, need to send pictures, supposed to not be daily driver (not sure how they would know) Over 50K they require Lojak. I haven't gotten quote yet as I need to take pics and send some receipts. A buddy of mine has an LS1 powered Miata and he gets coverage from them, he mentioned he got the dollar value he was looking for and his rates actually went down compared to Geico.

Althought what I say goes for insurance in CA, You wont really ever get an insurance company to cover racing parts like Turbos and Maintenance upgrades because it makes the car more and more poised to fail.
Anything that would fall under Performance Aftermarket you are SOL The only thing insurance companies would think about covering if you have the correct documentation is aesthetic parts like a body kit and/or aerodynamic aesthetic parts. The correct documentation being; -Past Paid Receipts/Invoices for Parts from Vendor that MUST still be in business -Past Paid Receipts/Invoices for Paint and Labor and Fitting from Bodyshop that MUST be still in business If either are out of business you are SOL. Even if you have all the documentation and work in the insurance industry like I do, and know all the same rules and regulations as the insurance company, like I was dealing with it is still very hard and difficult to win these bouts if you want some more info, click my build link below and go to page 12 and read my entire breakdown of what happened with my insurance company. http://www.the370z.com/members-370z-...ml#post3573748 |
when I had my Porsche, my insurance said whatever value you say your car is worth we'll insure it for that. that was almost 20 years ago and I forget what insurance company I had.

I spoke with my allstate again this time (in past it was with his minions) and he said no way to enter in his computer an additional $ amounts for car coverage, but if you have receipts "he will do what he can" to get extra for upgrades, sounds like BS to me thou. I will try Nationwide and ask for CPE, but many insurance companies did mention small amounts up to 3K or so which is not anywhere close to what i'd need in a boosted car with all other upgrades. i was really trying to get at least 10K more that is where the issue is i guess.
