I have enough for one but not the other...
So I need to know which one is more prudent in getting done?
The modified CSC or the Oil Cooler? I'm going with Z1 for either of them and will be taking the Z to them to install the CSC when it's time(tried to get them to do it this week before I leave for New York but they're booked up so I guess I'm gonna do one or the other when I get back. So which one do you gents believe is more detrimental? My thoughts were the CSC since it can go out at any time and the oil temp can be maintained by just staying out of the throttle or letting her cool down. Lemme know what you lot think!

I've done both. Actually changed out the Csc and Master cylinder before utter failure. Use Motul 600 when you do it. Caveat on the Oil Cooler....with a 25 row it can take some time to get to 180 on your oil temp. Made a huge difference on hot days this summer. Completely solved any overheating issues. But as it gets cooler it can take awhile to get or even stay at temp if you are driving mellow. Free advice and its worth just that. CSC first aI would advise. But you will need both eventually.

Farm out the csc first and then diy the oil cooler.

Got it. It works. Maybe just the higher volume of oil = 1 quart. When I installed the plate and cooler there was no defining way of attaching the hoses. I have wondered if I have it reversed and the themostat is not even in play and it runs in an open loop. There was no info I could find and the info I did find said the hise attachment did not matter and was not defined. It is a good problem to have...might check that out the next time she gets lifted off the ground.

I think the CSC and master cyl. install was $700 plus at Nissan dealership. Oil cooler is definitely a diy afternoon project.

You can drive the car as is without the cooler for now. Slave goes and you have a gorgeous yard ornament that will start. Hmmm..

Thats a fair deal from the guy at work. A small price to pay for minimal stress. 1200 seems very high or I went to a cool dealership. It was supposed to be covered under my extended warranty but of course it wasn't.

Keep in mind most stealerships won't touch aftermarket parts so likely the quote they gave you is to swap out the pos csc for another pos Nissan csc. Go to Z1 and have it done right with their elimination kit, or take a look at the Zspeed option imo. An oil cooler is another necessity but it won't leave you stranded in the middle of no where unlike when you csc goes out.

you have less control of that failing vs. just driving more conservatively to deal with heat. It surprises me that some people will fork over more for an exhaust first. But at the same time, you ideally should fork for the clutch and flywheel since the transmission has to be dropped and you're already spending on CSC and CMC. Helps with the response and vague clutch feel of the car. You shouldn't be charged any more for the labor either. |
