Cleaning the driveway
Fun day today- I just get done washing my car and pull it into the garage, my wife gets back from grocery shopping and pulls into the driveway. I go out to help her and see smoke billowing from her hood... "not good".
Long story short, some how one of the hoses came off the factory transmission cooler (she drives an 09 Hyundai Sante Fe) about 1/8 mile from home. She made it back just in time to dump roughly 7 quarts of ATF on the concrete driveway. I had a sack of saw dust absorber and was able to get it onto the spill pretty quickly, but I'm still left with a 5'x5' 'oil spot' on the driveway. Any suggestions on how to clean this up? |

HOLY Sh*t! 5'x5' area? I had a small accident during my last oil change
I immediately poured in HOT water and put some liquid dish washer soap (few bottles of AJAX) and started scrubbing. I did this for at least an hour. Then, washed it off with a another bucket of hot water. Then, thanks to mother nature, it rained 6 days straight. Once everything dried up, I have NO oil stain. BUT your case is way more severe. I think on my home computer I have a link saved up for a good concrete oil stain cleaner. I will try to remember to post it here.

Hey guys...I've had good luck cleaning spilled oil using kitty litter and a short piece of a 2x4. Just cover the spill with the litter then scrub the area with the wide (flat) side of the 2x4. It will grind the litter to a dust down into the pores of the concrete and soak up the oil quite well. You may have to do this a couple of times but it has worked for me.

unscented kitty litter to clean up the big mess and citrus clean to remove the stain.
Don't Just Clean It! CITRUSCLEAN IT! If it's a really bad stain, use diluted muriatic acid to bleach the concrete.
