Some kids thought my Z was a GTR

Was cruising through my neighborhood the other day on my way to the gym. As I was turning right at a stop sign there were a few middle school aged kids walking by and as they saw my car they started yelling at me to pull over so they could check out my "sick car".

I just ignored them and kept driving but heard one of them yell "sweet GTR man" lol. Does your Z ever get misidentified as a different car and if so what kind?

DEpointfive0 10-06-2016 09:37 PM

A porch, that's most common

DeliriousClam 10-06-2016 09:42 PM

People around here usually don't know what the hell it is

Ventruck 10-07-2016 12:25 AM

Got it a few times, especially since the facelifted version is less common here.

But not to side track, I remember those times when I was a kid seeing some cool cars without knowing what they were at first. I was already on the company of a car collector so to see something different just really piqued my interest because it was like "where the hell did that come from?" since I thought I saw everything at least in a magazine.

So when I see/hear kids outside reacting to my Z it's cool. Not in that showboating way, but it's a throwback thought to when I was in their shoes.

alangoooo 10-07-2016 12:56 AM

Usually a Porsche. Someone asked me what car it was at a stop light, and I told him it was an electric vehicle, he believed me.

birdman71 10-07-2016 11:08 AM

I used to get 350z and Porsche before the body kit. After the body kit, I got what kind of car is that? ALOT.. Fewer said Porsche. I got aston martin one time, I laughed for longer than I probably should have and told the guy I wish I made that much a year. lol

Elminsster 10-07-2016 01:29 PM

A guy asked me if mine was a Porche at a stop light. He then proceeded to tell me about his sweet four wheeler that will just "stand straight up"

Lol that's funny you mention that about the Aston Martin because one time while filling my tank at BP a guy thought mine was a Maserati. I told that guy the exact same thing - I wish I made enough to afford one.

Bad Boy 10-09-2016 02:36 AM

Yeah I hate when people refer to it as a 350Z not knowing there has been 370Z around for a couple years now.

I think it's pretty cool that a middle school aged kid would even be aware of the GT-R's existence.

barncobob 10-09-2016 11:11 AM

is it me or does the 17 Jaguar F look a lot like a Z

Z-Girl 12 10-09-2016 11:19 AM

GTR um no way, Porsche every now and then!

Kaizer_Sosay 10-09-2016 11:29 AM

So far I've gotten Porsche and Maserati. Interesting to say the least...

Duc_Z09 10-09-2016 11:58 AM

I once had a Nissan sales rep point to my car when I asked him where their showroom GT-R went (Younger Nissan in Frederick, MD).:rofl2:

I was like, "nope.":gtfo2:

kenchan 10-09-2016 03:38 PM

dumb people use to think my car was a 350z too.

ChopsZ 10-09-2016 05:39 PM

I've had several people call my car a 300Z, and one lady ask me what year my "Corvette" was. I felt that one was an insult.

NRGz 10-09-2016 06:10 PM

Ive gotten alot of 350 comments.. i never corrected them.
Ive gotten alot of Porsche and 'what kind of car is that?'. All I tell them is its a Nissan .

Not very popular here for the Z. I have probably only ran into 3 370's since ive owned the car and all were lady driven..
A handful of 350's here though.

Traveling back from Texas to Washington visiting family. A guy on the interstate was driving like a freaking idiot, passing people on the shoulder doing a buck plus. I slipped her down a gear or two, caught up to him and got his plate and physical description. A few miles down the road as my wife was calling the police we get pulled over by the fuzz saying people reported us (driving a Porsche) for racing with another car. We stated our intent, handed him over the information as he was interested in finding him more than us and let us go about our way.

madeinjapan 10-11-2016 10:07 AM

porsche

JARblue 10-11-2016 10:11 AM

Nissan dealer called me this weekend while my car was there for some repair diagnosis.

Jacob: Hello Mr. James, I wanted to talk to you about your 350Z.
Me: Then I think you have the wrong number

UNKNOWN_370 10-11-2016 01:18 PM

They call my car a 350z A LOT!!!

kbc749 10-13-2016 08:06 PM

Best story I ever had was a time when I was going through car wash (it was touchless and my car looked awful and I had a thing and was running out of time judge me) anyways there were some guys outside and they were all talking like
"oh what is that, that's a 350z right"
"yeah man I love those"
I Slowly drive by on my way in
"hey man it says 370 on the back, whats that?"
"oh isn't that the newer one?"

I don't understand how people cant tell them apart sometimes... and then people get annoyed at me for correcting them that its a 370

They look very similar if you don't actually own one. I always tell people to look for the rectangular turn signal cutouts in the back... dead giveaway.

Haha.... so true. If i correct someone they'll say whatever, sane car. I'll say no, it's a complete redesign and they only have mild resembles.

They say. It looks the same to me.

I choke it up to them being non enthusiasts or muscle heads.

Hotrodz 10-14-2016 10:53 AM

Here is a couple other comments I have gotten: "What kind of exotic car is that, I haven't seen one of those before" and it must be nice to own a car that's worth a $100k!" LMAO :p

Some kid thought my Z was a Corvette.

Volk Z 10-14-2016 04:23 PM

I had a Z meet and my buddy had his Lotus Esprit V8TT (2003 I believe) and some people said look at all the Porche's and Lambo!!?

Most people have no idea. Personally I could care less about what model Mustang someone drives or whatever but I still know the difference between a GT, Cobra etc.
Just need to realize most of these people have never owned a sports car excluding their sick garage on Need for Speed Underground or Forza haha.

That happened to me yesterday on the highway. I'm driving along and look to my left and there's a kid in the passenger seat of an SUV next to me who looks over at my Z and his eyes light up and you can see him get excited as he gave me a thumbs up. Not sure if he knew what car it was, but it was cool to see that now knowing I used to do the same thing.

And to answer the original thread question, yes, I've been told "Sweet GTR" on three separate occasions.

wolfcyn 10-15-2016 11:29 PM

welp, at age 19, i thought my life was about to come to an end tonight. i believe it was a toyota camry that failed to use their signal when switching into my lane which caused me to brake harder than i ever want to and swerve into oncoming traffic. luckily, nobody was close enough to cause any damage to my vehicle. as i cruise into a parking lot(still facing oncoming traffic) i regained my senses and proceeded to meet my gf. God is good

^^Nope, you chose the correct thread. According to the thread title, "Some kids thought your car was a Good Target to Ram".

...sorry, I'm really bored at work

zguynate 10-20-2016 12:45 PM

I get told by a lot of my "older" friends who are in their 40's and 50's that I have a nice 300z, or they will ask about my 300z. Im guessing because they were young adults when the 300zx was around.

Spooler 10-20-2016 06:48 PM

I hope folks continue to think my Nismo is a Porche. I keep seeing , the man, flying by the other direction for some reason on the interstate. I have no idea for what.
