Changed MT fluid to Redline

Changed to Redline MT-90 (GL4, 75w90). Like others have noticed, there is a huge improvement in shifting afterwards.

Sorry- wrong section, I know. I can't figure out how to move it.

Can you be more descriptive? I've been thinking about doing this.

I put MT-90 in my lotus (notorious for horrible shifting) and it literally felt like I had a different car. the shifting was suddenly smooth as could be. I was blown away by the improvement.

I love Redline gearbox oil, the best I've ever experienced.

m4a1mustang 11-28-2009 11:55 PM

I am going to have to order some and take care of it at my next oil change.

Is there any need to wait x miles before changing the MT fluid like the engine oil? How often does the stock MT fluid need to be replaced vs a synthetic?

How much would a shop usually charge for flushing/refilling if I provide the fluid?

+1 on the Redline fluid. I did the tranny and rear diff fluid swap at my 30k mile service. The car definitely shifts smoother.

im thinking about doing this on my G. it's a notchy gearbox from the getgo. the Z, not so much...to me it's pretty smooth. not toggle switch smooth like my honda's gearbox but smooth enough.

I may also have to try this. As noted the 370 has decent shifting but coming from a Honda it just doesn't have that smooth snick action.

I did two DIYs in the DIY section on tranny and rear diff oil changes. I put the appropriate Redline products in each. I did the rear diff first but didn't notice any difference really (not sure I would really notice anything). The rear diff oil was NASTY, so that alone made the change worth it. After I changed the tranny oil (which looked pristine), the car shifts much much smoother. With a cold start, it shifted like a warm transmission instead of the clunky, stiff shifts you normally get before the car warms up. Definitely worth changing out both oils. I did it at 3k miles. Changed the motor oil to Redline at 5k.

Will probably do this at my next oil change, which will be around 12,000 miles (currently at 10,000).

Sure, here are the main differences upon the change to Redline MT-90 in the 6MT gearbox that I have noticed so far:

- easier gear engaging when cold, esp. 2nd gear
- smoother downshifts
- gearbox whine seems to be slightly quieter than before (not significant- could be caused by other factors).

Haven't tested under high RPM shifting yet, but in my other car, it seems to engage better with the Redline fluid.
