I got a question:

I read some where that Redline MT90 might not be good for the transmission synros. The gear box might be smooth but oil doesn't protect the synros as good as original trans oil. (I could be wrong).

My story:

I had a VW vr6 back then and I changed the oil to MT90 at around 90K km and when the car was at 140K km the transmission failed (grinny, tran oil leaking...). Not sure if it was the oil but VW tranny should last more than 140K.

Anyone?

Not sure about the manual tranny because I have the AT, but the owner's manual hints that the diff fluid must be the Nissan stuff specified or risk voiding the warranty on the rear diff. Anyone read this like I do?

YamahaR6 12-02-2009 02:09 PM

I believe people are feeling better shifting is because Redline oils are thinner than the stock oil. Stock oil needs more time to warm-up than Redline.

But the question is, does Redline oil protects just as well as the stock oil or better??

Blown32 12-02-2009 03:07 PM

I'am using 50% virgin olive oil and 50% peanut oil and what a difference!Soooooo much smoother!

spearfish25 12-02-2009 03:16 PM

Here we go again with Nissan oil being mysteriously superior to other products. The Redline oils that we're using to replace the OEM oil have the same viscocity ratings as the stock crap. Fluids with the same viscocity have the same resistance to flow/shear aka 'thickness'.

Finally, how is the 18 year old Nissan technician going to know that the black sludge coming from my rear diff is Redline or Nissan OEM oil? No way will they be able to tell the difference.

We can beat this to death the same as the engine oil!As long as you are happy useing a good quality oil in the diff, engine,or trans you will be fine.Enjoy the car and move on.
