Buying a 370z Nismo at 16 years old! Need help deciding.

Hey guys, so i decided that i want to buy a 370z nismo for my first BOUGHT car. I am paying for this myself, but my parents are paying for insurance. Do you guys think this is a good car for me? Should i buy another car that is aobut the same price? A used 2014 corvette Stingray is about the same price a 2016 nismo tech. What should i do?? Is this a good car for me? P.S. im a responsible driver on the road, but love modding and tracks. Thank you in advance for any advise you give me!!!

I'd say the 370z in general isn't a good car for a 16 year old. Let alone a brand new Nismo. Not sure where you're located, but if your area gets a real winter, then you'll need to be really careful. Also, theres barely any room in the car for your stuff / friends if that matters at all. IMO, a sports car should never be driven by someone who doesn't have years of experience behind the wheel.

With all that said, it's your money, so do whatever makes you happy and just be smart

As much as I would have loved to have had a Z when I was in high school, I'd recommend against it. Get a car that you won't be afraid to beat up on. Trust me, even if you won't get in trouble with it, someone's going to mess with it. There are no limits to the amount of jealous morons that will **** with your ride in the HS parking lot or even university. On purpose or not you're going to get dings and nicks and if you care about your car that's going to drive you nuts.

Worse yet, not having enough money to pay for repairs for said chips and dents is further going to drive you nuts.

As cliche as it may seem, civic in my opinion.

I'm halfway with the other folks here.. buy something you can beat on... But who says it has to be slow?! When I was in high school in the late nineties, my first sports car was an 87 RX-7 Turbo. It constantly needed something and I loved working on it...I learned a lot about cars because of it and it inspired my car hobby that I still have today. I'll always remember it fondly.

Buy something you can beat/work on...save the extra money... And when the time comes that the first love finally dies, get the corvette.

Why do I think this post is going to end with "So I turned the traction control off and hit a curb/tree/car. How much is going to cost to fix?" I'm j/k op. I wish I had the abitly to get a bad *** car at your age. If you are serious I would vote no on the nismo and the vette shouldn't be an option. Maybe start with an older g35 sedan or Altima and mod that up? The z has so many blind spots and is way to aggressive for a new driver. Post pics of the nismo if you end up getting one. Please be carefu, there are other drivers on the road with you.

IF OP is a serious poster...

My friend, while he liked driving, people mooched him for rides non-stop in HS. Then they'd get all comfortable sitting on it, putting their foot on the bumper and dashboard, thinking they're all cool for being around a car period. I knew another guy who paid a premium to park in a reserved lot 2 blocks away (in high school). Pretty much every early car owner in my high school had their lives kinda revolve around their cars — whether to mod them with their min wage jobs or avoid having to give rides. It's stupid. Take the bus and actually hang out with your friends while they're local, all of them.

My Z is my daily, but I avoid using it for errands, and I do have to keep mind of places I'd avoid because of dips and curbs, and s***ty parking. I'm lucky there's another car that I have access to in the house that can put up with that crap.

I really don't know if that "modding and tracks" is just hollow speak or actually holds weight (like you've been going to racing school or actually building cars already), but if that were the case, I'd just say go build a cheaper track car while driving your Accord for street use.

The 370z is probably not the best car for a 16 year old. But if you are looking into getting a sports car for your first car, the 370z is pretty forgiving at the limit and wont bite as hard if you make a mistake IMO. I had an S2000(AP1) as my first car so I can understand where your coming from, if you respect the car and its capabilities while being mindful of RWD you should be good. I might recommend going with a 350z HR/Nismo or 370z Sport it would be a cheaper option in the long run, especially if you are paying cash it would be wise to save some money in case of unexpected repairs/maintenance.

Have your parents looked to see what the insurance will be on a Z or Vette for a 16 year old? How the hell can a 16 year old afford either? Can you afford to keep the car once you graduate and have to pay your own bills?

Both are terrible choices for a new driver. Hopefully you don't kill yourself.
