Rear-facing car seats...you've been doing it all wrong
I got to playing around with an idea and this seems to work. The issue with the rear-facing seats is the (ever so low possibility of the) air bag deployment. Fold the seat forward and your car seat can sit on the bench with the back resting on the back of the passenger seat- safely away from the airbag. There's still space to connect your seat belt and even easier to connect to the trunk anchor.

I wouldn't do it that way. There are numerous other aspects of a crash that might not be accounted for in such a position.
Your car has an 80-lb occupancy sensor for the passenger seat. The cradle/frame for rear-facing child seat straddles the sensor and the airbag is designed to turn off without an occupant meeting the weight requirement. |

How about you spend $5-6 thousand and buy a sedan to drive your child in.

I traded in my 350z because I was going to have a baby. Now that my kids are older and are in booster seats, im looking to get a 370z but i still have my sonata as my main means of transportation for my children. Although I will be taking them for a ride on occasion. |
