as someone who works in the auto industry in sales, these emails are 95% of the time, a waste of time and energy. However, there are certain instances where the customer may want out of their current car (high interest rate, just don't like it, etc) where it kind of works in their favor. If their previous car had a ridiculous interest rate due to bad credit, they can trade that in and get a newer car at a lower rate if they made their payments on time.
I've had many customers where we send out those emails and they did indeed get into a newer car at a slightly higher (less than $10 a month more) payment. Keep in mind, if you do trade in your car, you also get the tax savings as well so sometimes it is in your best interest to trade it in while your car is still worth something. PS - KBB is a worthless tool to check current car prices because it doesn't factor in CarFax reports and other things.

Yeah...........dealers do this all the time. My wife got one for her 2010 Kia Forte Koup for heavens sake! Dealers just want to get you into the showroom. They don't care about what car you have as trade. You can be sure that they will lowball you once they see you're interested in getting something new. Believe me I know. My brother was sales director at both an Acura and Audi dealership.

yep, carfax is kinda worthless too cause accidents dont show up very quickly.. if my car ever got into an accident, the day it comes out of the shop it will go straight to carmax or dealer trade.

I got one of those for the 2011 Z I was leasing. I was skeptical but called them on it - a Nissan dealer 90 miles away. Long story short, they wanted my car bad enough that they bought out the rest of the lease (6 months early), gave me a smoking deal on a 2014 Z, picked it up in Chicago, delivered the new car to my house on a flatbed, and hauled the 2011 away (snowstorm rendering a Z undriveable). I never even set foot in the dealership. It was like ordering a pizza.

I told them I wasn't interested until the new Z released (think I said that earlier). What does that have to do with whether the car is worth that or not (which is what I was replying to)? He was trying to make it sound like my car isn't worth that, but it very likely is worth that and more. KBB.com shows that a dealer would ask between 26K and 29K for it so yeah, that looks right that they'd offer 25K for it.
