My old mid 80's taxi cab made a clicking sounds when I put it into park at ~20 mph.

I can't be the only one tempted to press the Start/Stop engine button at 80mph, just to see what happens.

Doesn't do anything at 5 mph coasting.

while tempted to create a second username before replying...

so was coasting down a hill to a red light after shifting 7AT -> neutral today, after 10 seconds or more i glanced at my stereo because the display was lite up (normally it goes black unless making adjustments) and noticed the backup camera was on, glance at shifter and pulled it back from R -> N.... derrrrrrrr

it had done nothing, luckily, the AT computer is way smarter than I am....

so dere's no lock out feature when going into reverse? usually AT cars require u to push a button or pull a trigger to engage reverse..

Well, i remember doing an AT fluid flush and while it was up on the lift, I was doing the standard PRND cycling. Well, as i let the car go through 1,2,3,4 and so on, I blanked out and shifted into park thinking the car was stopped. Well, the wheels were still rolling at 25 mph. Made a terrible noise and i immediately pressed the brakes. As far as I know, there was no damage done.

I've done this again before too where i was driving and minding my own business until a spider started rappeling down in front of my face as I was driving near my neighborhood. Freaked out and pulled over immediately and shifted into park as I was around 10 mph slowing down. same sound again, might have been the parking pin or something. Nonetheless, I use my handbrake to make sure the car is parked now.

Yes, there is a button to make it idiot proof.... They didn't take into account for my Idiot v.2.0 upgrades. I need a "Are you sure you want to proceed with this ill-advised action?" Siri voice.

I'll blame the pups... was just leaving the vet with 2 of my four legged pug kids (one in pet bed on passenger side floor ( she's 16+ and blind so not missing looking out window, but still managed to pee thru pet bed& a towel to soak the, luckily, plastic backed floor mat)) and Remus who loves barking at everything out every window, who was harnessed to front seat but still tried to sit in my lap every 45 seconds all the way home (at least they moved the emergency flasher button; in the 350 I had the flashers on every 45 seconds all the way home)

"we stopped for a BURGER!"-Remus

Maybe the OP thinks that if D is for drive and R is for reverse then P must be for passing? I say throw caution to the wind and try it out.

I guess commonsense is quickly fleeing this forum as it does in the real world.

here's what you do. test it out and tell us the results.

if you're too scared to then you're just a little wimp. do it for science. do it for the community.

do it.

do it.

do it before the lock.
