Anyone tried to test drive a GTR?

Has anyone here tried to take a GTR for a test drive? Do they allow test drives on the GTR, or do you need to show you're serious somehow?

They want to keep the mileage down on them so you pretty much need to be ready to buy to go off on a test. They aren't going to let anyone come off the street test one if they are "thinking about buying one." That's just one of the cars that you know if you're going to buy or not before you even go to the dealership.

That said, my dealership let me sit in one. lol.

but how would they know if you are serious or not? for example if i go up to a dealership and say i want to buy a GTR, how would they sort the serious buyers vs. the tire kickers out?

From what my dealer told me when I bought my Z: The dealers won't let you test drive a GT-R unless you go in there, tell them you are serious, and they run a credit check/run partial financing approval to guarantee that you are serious about buying the car. They won't let just anyone test drive it. They have sold one to a local DJ, and if I remember correctly to a mid-20's kid that had made it big in IT/Software development. Hell, the dealer wouldn't even let the salesmen sit in the GT-R, and I think they said the owner of the dealership is the only one that goes on test drives with the potential buyer.

No test drives at the dealership i went to. They have the GT-R taped off like a crime scene. Won't even let me sit in it.

they had 2 GT-R's at a dealer by me..a black and white..everything was covered inside, seats, floors, etc. doors locked and they wont unlock em. the sales guy told me that those are on a no test drive status. he said that the people the buy those don't even bother driving em..they just come in with the $$ and take it.

he said 1 guy came in with a tow guy following him and bought the car cash and put it right on the tow truck when he bought it. the tow guy said his full time job is to tow cars to whereever this guy wants.

are you guys serious? i have seen a GT-R at two different dealerships. The doors were left wide open, and people just walked by and didn't even bother to look at it. Probably they know they couldn't afford but at least theydidn't lock the doors.

I saw two high school kids come in and spend like 15mins checking out the car. The opened the hood, trunk, sat in the car, and the manager/salesmen stood right there and didn't even care.

My dealer treated the Nismo I bought about the same as the GTR. Every time I went in there, they would ask people to step away from it if they were leaning on it, touching the glass/paint, etc.

I got kind of mad one day I was in there though, because one of the salesmen was leaning on the spoiler of the Nismo (weeks before I bought it). How could someone be so inconsiderate? I can see touching the paint or glass, or even kicking the door panel while sitting in it...but propping yourself up on the spoiler of a 40k car that "someone" (me, haha) might eventually buy? Ugh.

They wouldn't let me even sit in the GTR, even though they tried to sell it to me. Kinda bummed, oh well.

Sat in one, as far as the test drive goes, the general fleet manager told me that the ONLY person that got to drive the car was the managers there when they first got it, and they only had about 2 blocks to test drive it. And also they told me they have to run a credit check and you have to potentially have atleast 25% of the car pay in a form of a cashier's check or cash *which is about 20 to 30K* to show them that you're interested before they let you test drive one. So with that being said, you have to have a good credit score and a lot of liquid cash to show before they let you take it off the lot to test it.

Pretty much what everyone else here said. No test drive unless you put a deposit down and make a deal on the car. And yes, the few Gt-R dealers here have them locked and taped off like a crime scene. No one gets to drive it, not even the managers. Heck, it was hard enough finding someone that allowed me to test drive the 370z

Spoke with a GT-R owner at a track day. He said they wouldn't let him test drive one despite him committing to the purchase. He just bought it 'blind' without a test drive. Fortunately it's a pretty fabulous car to drive that I haven't heard anyone complain about purchasing .
