Damaging a Z..
Would these hurt your 370z?
1. Jack rabbit starts...shooting out from traffic lights or stops. 2. Changing gears at high revolutions (over 5k) 3. Cruising or driving fast for 100 miles at speeds never lower than 90 or higher than 115 for 100 miles of an empty highway perhaps once each week. |
how old are you

Kept within reason, none of those should do any damage beyond a little extra wear and tear. You will have to change your clutch, tires, brake pads, &c more often than some other people. Of course, if you are dumping the clutch, not rev-matching during shifts, and doing your cruises during 110 degree weather, you're going to break something.
If you're going to be driving the car hard, change fluids often. |
Launching cars will always put some kind of stress on parts.
|
It's a sports car, have fun with it like your doing!!!
Nissan has a Leaf for those who wanna drive sports cars like pansies!!! |
This is your umpteenth Z and you are asking these questions?
Just get the Chevy Sonic and be done with it. |
the guy is JERKING us best to ignore the a--wipe.:icon23:

This isn't the resident TROLL is it???
|
Pretty sure this is a troll attempt...
|
I like to do Jack rabbit starts while Shooting at traffic lights, and always, always go over 100mph after said shooting attempts.
|
And where in this country can you legally do 90-115 mph for 100 miles on a highway?
What a trolling schmuck. |

But really what sane person would drive over 90mph for up to 100 miles? |
I live my life 100 miles at a time.

Noop, won't hurt your car. If you get caught acting stupid be prepared to pay the price. That will be a large price at your age.

Look, I am not trolling. I have had the z before but used it in city traffic and short trips. About 20 plus years ago, I took a trip from New York to San Francisco in a Honda Prelude (1997) driving on Highway 94 and through upper Michigan and parallel to the Canadian
border. Now that I am retired, I plan on taking one last long trip similar to that one but hitting places where I have lived...(Oneonta, NY, Ann Arbor, MI, Rapid City, SD, Los Alamos, NM, Fresno and San Bernardino, Ca. Taking the northern route (before it gets too cold) and returning via the Southern route, visiting friends in Tucson, AZ. On a recent trip to Tunica, MS fron Nashville, I hit 115, cruised for short stretches at 90. I was wondering how the Z would handle high speed for a longer period, say an hour or two. Also, I tried the paddle shifters and sometimes, Not realizing I had it in manual, I took of from traffic light and did not notice that I had gone to 5000 RPM before hearing the Engine over the music. I normally shift at 3k and wondered if shifting at higher RPM hurts the car. Sorry if Zi upset some of you. |

Sounds like a great trip.
As long as you aren't cruising at redline drive whatever speed you want and shift when you like. If you find yourself with a heavy foot when it's hot out you want want to consider an oil cooler. Mine would get the temps up real easy before I installed one. Beyond that enjoy the trip, take lots of photos. |

The OP should just get a motorcycle. The rush is much greater. Those new sport liter bikes have upwards of 150-180 hp at the wheel! 0-60 times not even worth mentioning, and quarter mile times in the low 10's, upper 9's!

20 plus years ago? So you're not 18?

Any time you push a car to its limits, you're putting considerably more stress on it than if you were to drive it gently. This applies to any vehicle, mechanical device, piece of electronics ... even your own body. Walk 10 miles, wait a few days, then do run/stop sprints for 10 miles. See which leaves your muscles and joints more sore the next day. Common sense, I believe, provides the answer to your questions. P.S. Dude ... sustained 100+ MPH on public roads? P.S.S. 18, but driving 20+ years go. Do we finally have proof of reincarnation? :p |

Until you drive in some of the remote places where traffic is low and the cops don't hassle you too much, you cannot imagine. Try typing in "Old Route 66" and you will see exits 60-80 miles apart, beautiful scenery and such. Highways (interstate 70, 40) were shorter and most traffic started bypassing Route 66. Also drive on Hwy 90 or 94, through Wyoming, Montana, Idaho etc. Speed limits are 75mph, it's easy to cruise 90 and above. |
Sounds like a fun trip.
I am sure the car will be fine. Just put in fresh good quality motor oil and tires. Also keep an eye on the oil/water temperature. Quote:

you can shift at 6k all day long and it will never hurt the engine. that is not even touching red line.

I suppose you can look at it this way: Drive it hard knowing it won't break, and be prepared, maybe, to have to spend a little $ to maintain the car a bit more frequently. Enjoy the car, the drive, and the scenery! :driving: And ... post pics! |
Mph
These cars will go 100 mph??
Good to know! |
Do it in reverse...now THATS a good time.
