I recently replaced my kick plate because it had a tiny scratch on it (even though that's what it is for). And I've been obsessing lately about a 3 inch scrape towards the bottom of my car that no one else can even see outside myself.

Please tell me I haven't lost my mind, I know many of share the same affliction right? lol
You are not alone. Actually, its more like thank God i'm not alone. Bought my Z in April. The next day bought a 95 millenia for the winter. Changed the oil on the Z at 600 miles then at every 1500 miles after that. I'm the only one that washes it and applies wax to it. As far as OCD i press the lock button on the key fob at least 6 or 7 times before i finally walk away. It's a beautiful car but don't forget to drive the hell out of it cuz thats where the real enjoyment is. Co-workers and friends bust my balls all the time but i don't care cuz im faster!

Man, I thought I was crazy... I just wash my car once a week and wax every few months. I don't let anyone lean on my car and I park strategically. I have a gf, work, school and a very active social life. I can't imagine keeping the car as clean with my own business, house or kids.

A girlfriend of mine had her feet all over the dash and headliner once and I could care less... Probably scratched a few things but it's all good.

I was with you until you got to this part. I love my GF, but she puts her foot on my dash and my foot's going....well...nvm.

Seriously though, I'd hope she wouldn't do that to my car whether it's an 2009 Z or a 1990 Mirage.

Well, as bad as I am about my RSX, if I ever get a Z, I can't see being any different.

Made a "roll-around" for washing the car and then, put together a little "detailing station" in the garage:

No garage queen here. I ran into a guy at the gas station once filling up his Ferrari 360 Stradale. I noticed that the front of his car was all pitted to hell and I asked him what happened. His reply was that he took the car to the track and drove it like it was intended to be driven. Ever since that day, I stopped obsessing over a big piece of metal and plastic with an engine and I enjoy the hell out of my car. I just got back from the track with a few new pits in the front and some tire marks that wouldn't quite clay bar out all the way and you know what..?

Good.

On a side note: I do keep my car clean. I mean it was a magazine cover car so I can't likely be rolling around in a filthy car. And I am meticulous about maintanence but I don't sweat all that small stuff like track day wear etc.

That's the fun of being different!

I spend more time in this "big piece of metal" than I do anywhere else other than at my job and in my bed, so for me....I'm gonna take care of it like I do anything else. I don't let dirt stains get on my bed or office desk, and I won't let them stay on my Z!

Hell, I'm waxing mine for the 2nd time in 2 weeks because I don't think I did it well enough the first time.

One thing I can say, even if you got a Z covered in mud and chips....I bet it'll still be a pretty car!

I try to clean the exterior every week, keep the interior clean as I can during the week. My front bumper has I think 4 rock chips in it now, and not just slight, meaning the paint has been removed. No one even sees them unless they wash my car, as per last night a friend was helping and he saw them and was shocked, but he said you can never see them unless you look closely.

Regarding synthetic oil, coolant, K&N oiled air filter, etc., I try to be very meticulous. On the paintjob...hmmm, living in a condo' makes you look the other way, 'cause the sun down here's a killer.

I keep my car clean, but what really gets my goat is when people shut my door using the window.
