What do you like better from the 350Z than the 370Z?
2 things for me:
-6 M/T shifter - the shifter on the 350Z was a lot firmer and shorter than the 370Z. I don't like the way the 370Z shifts and I don't like the way it feels. I find myself missing or mis-throw quite often in the 370Z. -Remote hatch release - man, why did they take that away and I kinda missed the rear windshield wiper the other day...just kinda... |
Yeah, my sister ( owns yellow 05 350 vert) made sure to stick it to me about that remote hatch release. Not a bid deal if you havent had it before :D. Set aside the hatch release, I envy the digital speedo that the 350's had the most. Simple and more appealing than 2 clocks in the same area
|
I don't understand the hatch release issue. If I want to put something in the hatch area, I walk over to it and press the button. Why would someone need an additional method of opening it?
On topic, I like the front end of the 350z better than the 370z non-Nismo. |

I liked the digital speedo readout option of the 350Z. And I kinda miss the rear windshield wiper as well. |
i miss the heated/auto dimming sideview/rearview mirrors alot =[ . the sideview mirrors on my 370z always build condensation ( getting chilly/rainy ) in northern va and takes forever to go away unless i wipe it clean with a rag or something. i also miss the gauge where it had all different functions. i think the clock for the third pod is absolutely ridiculous and completely stupid :shakes head: . oh ^ and the rear windshield wiper as well. but i still love the 370 with a passion

I do miss the digital speedometer and I hate the 370Z's mack truck-sized side view mirrors. I never used the remote hatch in my 350Z, so losing that isn't a big deal for me - tho when crossing from Canada into the US coming home from a business trip last week the border guard did ask me to pop my trunk, and I was like "uhhhhhh" :P Then told him how to do it. He locked the car. "No, a little more to the right..." so yea, can be cumbersome I suppose |

I agree. If you have to go out to the hatch anyway, what is the point of a remote hatch release? Doh! When they make a robot that takes my gear to the back, opens the hatch, stows the gear, then closes the hatch, we'll talk. |

I too miss the digital speedo. I also miss having a sunglass holder, and I miss the nice big center console storage unit of the 350; it's a fair bit smaller in the 370.
|
I miss:
auto dimming rear view mirror (homelink) auto defrost side mirrors stiffer suspension rear window wiper(that thing came in handy all the time) |
The auto-dimming Homelink mirror comes with the Touring model.
|
I miss the individual readouts for tire pressure, but at least I can rotate the tires side to side and not worry about where the sensors go now.

to me enthusiasts trim was like the equivalent to sports option of today. I don't like nor want leather so touring was not for me. |
I'm confused about the stiffer suspension and tigher/shorter shifter being on the 350Z - not on any 350Z I've ever been in.... my friend is always bemoaning his shifter and going on about how he wishes he had my transmission in his car...
As for the remote hatch release - uh don't really see the value in it. My 280ZX has it and its useful because the rear hatch requires a key to unlock it. Its simple enough to use the release before you go to the back instead of putting the key in and turning it. On the 370Z its a non issue (unless I go through the boarder and the need to open the hatch which I've never encountered but if I do I think I can walk him through the "hit the big long button to open - the small button is to arm the alarm") because its keyless. All the 370Zs here in Canada have the auto diming rearview mirror... was that stock on all 350Zs or an option? Put me down for... - Side view heated mirrors (a non-issue as of the 2010 model) - Tire Presure readout |
i dont miss the 350z at all actually. i had many opportunities to buy one but the car just never really appealed to me. the shape, the wheels, interior, etc. just not there.
the 370Z on the otherhand, caught my attention. :p |
1. I liked the heavier steering
2. It's hard to explain but the 350 wasn't as soft so it gave me more feedback, in a nutshell it felt more mechanical like a go kart 3. Exhaust note 4. Shift knob (it was flat on the backside so it was more comfortable to use) 5. you could actually use the little window to see your blind spot 6. most of all I miss the low end torque |
I think the 350Z looks really good in my rearview mirror trying to keep up with me

By contrast, I don't see ANY derivative styling on the 370z, even though it shares a lot of the 350z elements. In fact, when I went to a meet last month, I was amazed at how similar the two cars are. But that certainly was not my primary impression. Only features I wish our cars still had: * digital speedo (had this in the RX-8 and grew to love it) * sunglasses holder (they fit sideways in the center dash compartment, if you don't have nav) * individual tire pressure readouts * better rear 3/4 view! But I'm happy to trade all of this for a car that IMHO handles better, is faster, and has its own clear styling identity. I've had zero problems in 6 months of ownership. I certainly do not regret the Cayman I was originally going to buy. The Cayman was a bit too refined -- you have to be going scary-fast to get the same level of excitement that the Z gives in everyday driving. I love my Z!! |
350--debugged.
370--old+new bugs. Still, the 370's looks are too sweet to ignore. I'm keeping my '04.5 Touring Coupe, though (flawless beaZt!). |

There are three things I really wish carried over from the 350Z to the 370Z.
1. The glasses holder 2. The digital speedometer. 3. The oil pressure gauge. |

They stopped this after '06, but for the '06 you could see the exact pressure for each individual tire, versus a dummy warning light. I loved being able to monitor any reductions via the gauge. John |
Sorry for bringing back a really old thread, I never had a 350z...it never appealed to me like the 370 did, but I did notice that you guys missed something else.
Other than the digital speedo, individual tpms, and better looking side view mirrors....I really liked the slope of the dash, it was a lot more sloped, a little like the 300zx or NSX. The 370z dash, although better overall, misses that Lamborghini feel dash-wise. Also, the door handles on the 350 were aluminum...ours are plastic :( |

Nissan fixed this in the year 2011, it worked pretty good last winter here in the northeast. |
The visibility was much better in the 350, you felt like you knew where the car was where as in the 370z i feel like i cant see anything and don't know where other cars are or curbs ect.

350z The torque on the first year model, the weight and ride height on first year model as well.
They raised Hp over the years and torque dropped. BOOOOO!!! |

BTW, I'm pretty sure the door handles on the 370Z are aluminum too. |
I think it’s just personal preference and the cars are pretty dang similar in terms of overall design. I prefer the 350Z early 2003/2004 would top my list because I think it’s a great bargain and I like the overall feel of the car better but its personal opinion. The major difference I have noticed between the two in terms of doing setup and driving them are the following.
The 370Z was built to be more nimble then the 350Z and the way they went about doing this was they decreased the wheelbase by 4 inches. Then on the front suspension Nissan used a few other tricks to change the feel of the car like decreasing the amount of caster from 7.6 to 8.9 degrees to 4.4 to 5.9 degrees for the 370z. This change in Caster reduces steering effort along with the reduced wheelbase makes for a car that feels far more nimble and is likely is a bit more nimble. However, to do this they had to increase the SAI from 4.3 to 5.8 degrees on the 350z to 6.9 to 8.4 degrees since caster will help promote camber gain during cornering. The 370Zs increase in SAI is a more mechanical change to how fast the suspension increases camber as it really is the measurement between the long arm and short arm in the suspension. In a 350Z the top arm is longer so it has less SAI vs the shorter top arm of the 370Z that allows for faster camber gain during compression. I think this is the major difference in the car the 370Z feels light and nimble. The 350Z feels a bit more heavy but more stable. I think both setups have their ups and downs depending on what type of corner you are approaching. The good news is if you have a preference for one feel or the other you will end up with a fantastic car. |
Tire pressure gauge. Not much else
|
What do you like from the 350Z better than the 370Z?
