WOW just got told off by a dealer
So i goto this dealership in NJ West Winsor Nissan I drive up to the lot in my car (which is not bad at all) and go up to this white z I saw after a little bit someone came out the guy asked if I liked the car and told me if I wanted to he would get the keys I said sure he says you need to go do some paper work to get in the car we dont let people take test drives. I told him I just wanted to open the door and hood since it was a 09 used with 3,000 miles on it. He said I need to have a parent or some payment first. I am 25 years old Drive a 2006 Grand Cherokee Overland with no stickers, wheels, or anything that makes me look like a kid. The manager walks out and says I am going to start your paperwork and then we can look in the car. I told him that I wont sign anything and was about to leave when he said come back with a parent or some money and you can sit in it.
I dont know if the guy was having a bad day but I just thought that was wierd is that a new thing dealers are doing to sell cars... O and i was dressed nice not like a bum looking to drive a cool car and leave... |
Talk with your money.
|
buy a Z somewhere else and go back to peel out on their lot :)
|
:roflpuke2:
Guess dealerships are not hurting that bad. I agree, talk with your money, by taking it elsewhere. Edit: To make you feel better, the same thing happened to me when I wanted to test drive an Evo MR. I even had a guy from the same dealership (but Hyundai) say let him drive it, but the manager from Mitsubishi side comes running and and throws a hissey fit and says no. You see where I took my money. :D |
yea man i got the same thing when i went to buy my Z, given i am 18 years old and they didnt want to let me testdrive ( the manager did, the sales men didnt) so i said ok no problem, i left and went to get my check book came back and went to a different sales man, wrote him the check, shook hands with the manger and left with my brand new 09 touring :)

Some dealers don't know the meaning of customer service. I first went to a local dealer with my father to check out a Z. I'll put aside the fact that they had no idea what Z's they had in stock and made me wait an hour for a test drive. However, the sales manager was a complete @$$. He leaves his m6 with its tacky vanity plate in the handicap spot right in front and thinks he's a millionare. Now you have a law student and a well to be surgeon as a possible sale. We made an offer, I thought it was fair on a sport/touring Z. He could have just said no, heck that's what we said, here is our offer tell us yes or no. Instead he goes off ranting, "I want to know how you got to this number" on a 45K Z. If you don't have the money then don't waste my time." Really guy, not to be a dk but you're talking to someone who could probably take the Z and the GTR if he felt like it. I'm sorry you had a sad experience, F them and get it somehwere else there are plenty of nissan dealers who can make purchasing a Z a pleasurable experience.

Yea it just stinks because here in Morgantown, WV we have one dealer and their prices are atrocious to high like a 4k mark up and their customer service is good but they do not negotiate at all
So in order to get one i need to goto pittsburg or my hometown in jerz |

I was 100 dollars away from invoice at one dealership and another offered me invoice. Was wanting to use the 100 over guy since he got my sister a below price deal on her Murano and such, but a better deal is a better deal. His final comment, "well if 100 dollars is going to break this deal, then maybe you should keep your Saturn until you can afford this car." Was polite after he said that, and said bye and bought my Z at the other dealership two weeks later when it arrived. Sucks to because it is just down the road from my office and I was going to use them for any repairs and such I need, but even now it is worth the extra 20 minute trip to go to the dealership that treated me better. |
Dude, I got a great deal in Jersey. It about 2 hours from Long Island, NY but hey for a good price and good service I don't mind. Guy even took the time to "show me around" my new Z.

I get the "you're too young to afford anything" treatment everywhere I go. The dealerships, jewelry stores, everywhere. It's sad, really.
The only places that treat me right are tattoo shops, haha. |
Don't worry, happened to me on wed. (well not exactly like yours) I did feel Like they were treating me like a kid.....you know what you should do, go buy a scratchoff, tell them "I have money with me" and after they sit you down and process your papers then ask for your card, pull out the scratch off and say "what ever I get on here is my down payment" that'll teach them......ooorrrr you could just key all their cars....VERY deep.....

I agree with others, i would have requested to speak to some one else. |
I was pre-approved for a 50k loan walking into a dealer and they wouldn't allow a test drive unless I was "ready to buy." Retarded. Went to a Grubbs and hit 100 on the access road in their T/S Z. I was sold, for both the car and the dealer. Amazing how easy it is. Too bad the guy couldn't find a Nismo for me, I really wanted to buy from him.

Granted, Nissan doesn't "do" anything with the dealers, but, if they aren't selling cars...Nissan would know why... |

If he wasn't in a wheel chair or had any serious health problems...I would def. call up the cops. Seriously now its "if you got money, we will give you this handicap parking permit" C'mon I'm fat and I usually park far away from the entrance (after a meal that is, gotta exercise :roflpuke2:) |
I emailed about that car just to be an ***, they had it for sale above MSRP on a new one and they kept avoiding my question as to why they are trying to sell it for more than a new one. Every email back from steering away from the question. Dumbass dealers, do they honestly think anyone is gonna pay close to that? that car would have to be $25k for me to even think about.
|
Sorry to hear that man. Anyway, take your business else where. But after you've bought your 370Z, go back to that dealer and park in the front lot and ask that Douche where the parts department is, because you need wheel locks for your beautiful Z.

talk to fusz here on the forums, he'll hook you up and treat you right.
|
Anyone that gets missed treated should call up the main Nissan HQ and file a complaint. They get several complaints from the same place and they will act on it Im sure. They may not own the lot but they still dont want crapy customer service attached to the vehicles they make. And personnaly if a person treats me that way I will tell them to F off loud enough so all can hear.
|
Douche that dealer. They'll never make it anyway.
|
wow that really sucks. wat the other guys said, dont ever go back to that dealership just go somewhere else. That kinda shows you how their going to deal with you in the future if you do end up buying a vehicle from them. When I went to the dealership, I went by myself ( 20 years old ) brought an 98 civic coupe, dressed like a bum and when i was looking at the z the first thing my salesman said was lets take it out for a spin. he didnt ask me about anything else. I thought it was great and i told him i wasnt even really looking to buy a car today. he said it was cool and just wanted to show me the car. they gave me a great offer that day that i couldnt refuse and i came back the next day to make the deal. I never would of expected such great service. Got my Z from Nissan of Chantilly in VA. Its sad to hear the dealership treated you that way =[ .

sounds like something i would say...:icon17: |
I think this might be a sales tactic. The sales person attempts to make a potential customer feel like they aren't good enough to buy a vehicle so they'll then want it more, because what we want most is what we can't have, or so they'll buy it just to prove the sales person wrong.

Where's tony, He got told off by his dealer :D

A simple middle finger salute to the douchebag as you walked out would have been appropriate.

Age doesn't really matter. Some dealers are just @$$es. I went to a dealer here in Orlando ready to buy and they wouldn't budge off of msrp so you better believe after letting them know I would be back, I drove back to that dealer in my brand new Z and let them have it. The salesman was try to sell someone else on a Z and acted like he didn't remember me from the day before. When he asked me if I needed help, I let the customer know where to get good customer svc. I cannot stand such terrible customer service!

A dealership did this to me when I was buying my motorcycle. I was 21 and they wouldn't give me the time of day, they barely took $300 off of MSRP. They figured I was too young to be able to afford the bike. I just pulled the money out of my pocket and held it as I waved goodbye. Went to a different dealership 45 mins away and got it for the price I originally wanted. Paid 100% in cash... whoops... guess they ****** that up..

the $350 window tints the $750 already installed factory alarm system and out in the southwest, the $850 imaginary UV clearcoat protection. oh and the $1500-$3000 dealer fee on new honda's during the crazy gas prices a yr or 2 ago...when i asked the salesguy what was with the fee, he gave me some bs excuse... |

Haha. Glad I gave you guys a good laugh. I was right down the street (actually about 10 min away) and couldn't resist! When they told me that "no one is discounting these cars" they left me with no choice!
|
I was 23 when I got my z and they never ever treated me like that.
|
I am 27 and my Dad was even with me. Reed Nissan in Orlando just has terrible service no matter the age!

retail is difficult because customers are pretty demanding and a lot of sales
people turn into trolls after a few encounters with such arsehole customers. they tend to forget they can't just stereotype a customer as being bad. (im kinda tired from work so hope you dont mind me blabbing off...:tiphat: read on. im known as an official blogger at another car forum...) i literally buy a new car every year and im usually treated very well. i dont dress for it or anything. i am not young but i dont appear rich either. im open to play their game a little and have them like me first. put them in their little comfort zone and then reel them into a deal. business is a psychological game really. you give some, you pull harder. you give some more, pull a bit harder. if i was in the OP's position and if i was serious about buying a z, i would've just walked in and gave them the info they wanted. that shows the dealer you are a potential candidate and will give them the benefit of the doubt that you will buy from them. while taking the test drive, talk to him about pricing and what incentives they have. dont tell him you like the car too much...tell him about all the areas that you dont really care for. just tell him that it feels pretty good, but not perfect. the sales guy will say he can work out something to make it feel perfect. so now he's now playing your game. after the test drive he will ask you to walk in again to talk some numbers. if he did well, you go with him to talk some numbers. if he was an idiot, you tell him the car just doesn't feel that great and walk away. they will call you to follow up but that's their job. just play along and they will leave you alone after a while. be very clear what you want out of the deal AFTER the test drive. unless you test drive it you have no real credibility in their minds. dont be scared to walk out of a deal at any time. just remind them the car itself was not perfect and need some time to think over the numbers. walk out. they might give you want you want. they might not, but who cares, it's you that is paying. good luck and happy car shopping. :p |
