Hell no, didn't take it as bragging at all.

A good salesman would not make sweeping generalizations about someone, like discounting you because of age. You are correct, it is about money at the end of the day, and once they realized you had enough, it became time for them to see how much of it they could separate you from Nothing wrong with that though, if the art of sales and negotiation is done respectfully. We all want value for our expenditures, whether it be product, service, or a combination of both. It had to be enjoyable though, to blow that stereotype out the window

I told him I just wanted to open the door and hood since it was a 09 used with 3,000 miles on it. He said I need to have a parent or some payment first. I am 25 years old Drive a 2006 Grand Cherokee Overland with no stickers, wheels, or anything that makes me look like a kid. The manager walks out and says I am going to start your paperwork and then we can look in the car. I told him that I wont sign anything and was about to leave when he said come back with a parent or some money and you can sit in it.

I dont know if the guy was having a bad day but I just thought that was wierd is that a new thing dealers are doing to sell cars...

O and i was dressed nice not like a bum looking to drive a cool car and leave...

I believe you were terribly mistreated. The thing I would do in this kind of situation is leave a bad review of that dealership in the BBB, city search, and Consumer Affairs websites. Let the world know how badly you were treated. That way less buyers will go to that bad dealership and they go out of business for treating their customers poorly and the problem then takes care of itself. Then when it is your chance to buy a 370Z, look up on the BBB website first to find out which ones in your area are the best and buy it from them. That is Capitalism. You are voting with your dollars.

Lol. I had almost the exact opposite reaction to the dealerships i visited. I am 18 years old and I had to fend the salesmen off about me driving the car (already test drove the 370z 2 times as I shoped around dealerships). I chose the dealer that gave me the least amount of bs, they set me a very nice price with no haggling required.

Aren't you doing exactly what the sale reps were doing?

A few thoughts.

First, the dealer was in the wrong when they wouldn't even allow the OP to take a look inside.

When I was window shopping for a 370Z at the Autobarn in Evanston, IL, they had a few Z's sitting around on the show-room floor and none of the salespeople had any qualms with me opening the door and sitting in a Z, even though they had the key sitting in the dashboard (Kinda odd that they would leave the key laying around like that).

Anyway, a salesperson walks over and asks me if I have any questions and I say that I'm only window shopping, but he still offers to give me a test drive anyway. It was late and I didn't what to waste their time or hear their sales pitch so I took a pass.

Same thing happened when I took a visit to Grossinger Autoplex in Lincon Park. I walked in and sat in a brand new Camaro SS and starting monkeying with the stereo, power-seats, sunroof, etc... (they also had the igninition key on the dash) and nobody said a word. I was in the car for a good 20 minutes and none of the salespeople said a peep.

I guess it all depends on the dealership.

I agree with this comment. The salesperson is trying to put you in a situation where a defensive or insecure buyer might want to prove him wrong. While it was definitely rude of him, sometimes the best thing to do is to try to ignore it and let them continue their rambling but just don't listen or believe it. Its all dependent on their sales approach, some like to intimidate, others try to lie, etc. When I was buying the Z back in June, the sales manager was making up all kinds of figures, for ex. saying the invoice was only $500 below the MSRP. Instead of calling him on the lie or yelling at him, I just pretended I didn't hear him and kept pushing him harder. At the end of the day, if your price is reasonable, they usually won't turn down the deal.

I've had this type of thing happen a few times in the past. I've been working since I was 13 (26 now) and have always been buying things a little "before my time" I guess you would say.

Thankfully I didn't have this experience when I went to purchase my 370z. I walked into the showroom (where they had 1 370, none outsite) a salesman walked up to me and asked if I liked the car. I looked around and asked how we get this car outside, he asked if I was talking about a test drive, I said no, I want to buy it. Between the sales rep and the manager they were practically begging me to drive the car, I just politely asked them to get it outside and shine it up before we were done with my paperwork.

I also think the people at the dealership I went to are pretty friendly. I've been back there several times for service or just to check out what else they have and the salesman have treated me nicely every time.

I had the exact opposite experience in a Ferrari dealer at 18 years old. The guy offered for me to sit in the car, and I laughed and told him I was 20 years away from ever having a shot of buying one. He said that wasn't a problem, they were there for people to dream and he'd see me when/ if I was ever ready, but wanted me to sit in the cars. it felt great and I try to show the same respect to people that come into my showroom. We don't even come close to selling a car to everyone who comes in, 30% at best, so whats the difference.

PS The Ferrari guy didn't offer me a test drive-
