Default How did a Honda accord v6 keep up with me?

Driving home today a Honda Accord pulled up behind me at a light .As I took off he was right on my a@@ so I floored it from about 10mph (open main road almost no traffic) and to my surprise he had no trouble keeping up with me untill I backed off at about 70 .
How is this possible? the Accord is listed at 278hp so I have at least 70hp on him plus the high flow cats and CAI .
What gives??? Are my mods slowing me down without a tune ??

You are forgetting about his car. Maybe he was also modified and was able to keep up with you.

278 hp fwd has an instant traction advantage. What you have is a cornering advantage. You shoulda made a sharp turn.

I suppose thats possible but It appeared to be stock .I didnt hear any exhaust sound when he passed me that indicated a modified exhaust which is one of the first things besides CAI to do .

What gives is you're not on a track, in more ways than one. That type of driving belongs on a track not on public roads where you're putting others at risk; and it doesn't matter whether you thought there was almost no traffic. There's no traffic until there's traffic and you're head on colliding with it. Secondly, the Z is at home on just about any track where an Accord is at home at home depot picking out light fixtures and laminate floor samples.

I never duel with anyone on the street due to the fact that if they screw up i am involved. So that being said I always have fun by myself with no one else involved. There is always someone in a fart canned civic that thinks they are in a corvette next to me ,they rev and take off leaving me in their dust. I know what I have and have nothing to prove ,I actually enjoy driving relaxed most of the time. Insurance is way too expensive and my livelihood is my commercial hazmat license.

Made it in BTL.

Many cars can keep up with the Z on the open road and certainly on the streets. On long stretches, they won't have a chance. Regardless, your car is still sexier. You should be happy with that. If not, get boosted to solve your insecurity.

On an actual drag strip you'd beat him by a little bit. On a closed course you'd spank him and send him to bed without supper. None of which is relevant on the street...

Can adding hfc's and a CAI can possibly cause a loss of power if the car isnt tuned ?

Extremely doubtful. Those are light mods that increase airflow (slightly) and don't really require a tune anyway.

The v6 Accord isn't a slow car. As has been mentioned, FWD has a slight traction advantage with the engine weight being over the driving wheels. Plus a 10-70mph roll-on isn't enough to really separate a "fast" car from a "slow" car anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if your Z could "keep up" with a 5.0 Mustang in that situation, and anybody but the biggest Z-car homer will admit that the 5.0 is the much faster car. It's only when you get into the higher speeds (that you shouldn't be attempting on public roads in the first place) that more power becomes apparent. The Z isn't meant for drag racing anyway; it's a sports car that shines on a twisting, closed race course. A v6 Accord wouldn't have a chance against you there.

I'm guessing this is a v6 accord. You say it looked stock, so I'm going to assume it's automatic in this case. Automatic V6 will take off the line faster than you and shift faster than you (since you have a Nismo that means you have a 6mt). If it makes you feel any better, sometimes when I spiritedly take off in 1st I'll notice similar, average cars keeping pace, which makes me think something is wrong with my Nismo. One time this Camry v6 kept pace really well. But then again, I'll be first to admit that I'm not the best at launching this car.
