How do you drive around trucks ?

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d1196fd0a8.jpg

Seriously, I have some kind of phobia to the big and heavy trucks.

Everytime I see those car accident scenes in which trucks involved, it seems like getting an accident with any type of a truck just literally means 'death'.

I believe I usually keep safe distance enough from other cars, but get confused how to behave when I see a truck close to me.

How do you cope with the trucks ??

We are talking Tractor Trailers on the interstate, right? Simple... I ensure I never drive next to one for any longer than I have to. As I come up to one, I will wait behind in the passing lane until I have a clear shot at passing it entirely, then scoot past it as quickly and safely as possible... watch for left hand curves as the trailer may tend to wander into your lane as the truck goes thru the turn. Also, watch for bridge and overpasses where shoulders are non-existant, which also means your safety margin is non-existent...

Drive safe...:driving::tup:

there is 1 type of truck U don't want to pass, especially on a motorcycle...its a loaded cattle truck, don't ask me how I know.:icon18:

JARblue 04-17-2016 06:06 AM

I often change lanes beneath lifted pick up trucks for fun :driving:

Seriously, though, I just try to make sure they see me. I'll speed up or slow down to avoid their blind spot as well as ensure that I don't change lanes into it.

Otherwise, its no different that any other driver on the road. Sedan drivers on their phone are much worse than the avg truck driver. You must have faith that the other drivers are not going to run you off the road, and you have to be prepared for when they try it :twocents:

Peak out a little to see if I can make a full pads. .. drop a gear or two and rip it past. Not too fast tho :p

If it's a single lane dotted I will rip hard though... assuming it's safe

Stop going to /r/watchpeopledie and just treat trucks like any other vehicle. Don't ride in their blind spots and you will be fine.

-only drive next to them if you have to
-if you are next to them, they to be there for the shortest length of time possible (either drive faster or slower than them, never the same speed as they are going)
-if you cant see the driver, they can't see you
-try not to dive on there right side. they only have mirrors to see you with vs being able to turn there head and see you (depending on where you are on the left)
-be decisive when driving near them, you do not want to give mixed signals to confuse them
-turn on lights anytime vision is impaired
-don't tailgate them or anyone
-be defensive and let them merge when they have blinkers on. You can flash your headlights to let them know you see them and you are ok to let them come over to your lane.
-never cut them off! They require a lot more road to stop vs you so if you have to suddenly break, they will too.. SQUISH!
-watch out then they turn right! they will usually put on left blinker first to 1/2 merge into the left lane and drive on the line for a little bit. Then they will blinker right then turn right. Don't pass them up, as the tail end will swing out.

Im a truck driver, just pass safely and dont cut 2 feet in front of the truck, if speeds are moving 65 ,pass in front of the truck at minimum of 50 feet. If your angry at the lane the truck is in and not going as fast as you like ,dont cut in front of the truck ,you are only endangering yourself. be safe everyone and be patient.

oh god the amount of times I see people cut trucks off and slam their breaks... uh yea buddy that's how you get fk'd up. especially if they carrying max load.

If I am going back infront of the truck I make sure I'm going to make a big enough gap. if not meh... i'll hog the left lane for a bit :icon17:

i dont want rocks flying into my car so if i can pass it i would, if not back off a good 7-8 car lengths.

Lots of good advice itt. Having had an 18-wheeler change lanes into me years ago where two interstates merged, I am particularly careful to avoid being in a truck's blind spot when they or I are merging.

I also try not to drive beside them for any longer than necessary. If "forced" to do so, I strive to get in a position where I can see the truckdriver's face in his rear-view mirror.

So very right. This past Friday I was behind a car that barely maintained lines for well over 2 miles. It was obvious they either had a liquid lunch or was on the darn phone. I came >ThisClose< to calling 911. Probably should ahve.

I haul 8800 gallons of gas and people pull all kinds of stunts, very well knowing what I carry with all the class3 placards displayed all around my trailer! Thanks for being safe ;)

I see it all the time, the old days of people talking on the phone aren't as bad as people texting and playing around on Facebook ,social media, playing games not looking at the road. It is hard to tell drunk from a distracted driver, but a distracted driver is more dangerous.

i witnessed a guy in some small nissan get clipped by a truck yesterday while he was waiting for the light in the right turn lane. it was a decent crash. i couldnt see how the truck driver didn't see him though.. sunny and all.

As for driving around trucks, just like everyone else said; give them a wide berth, and pass them when it's safe to do so. Most truck drivers with any real experience realize and appreciate that they make other drivers nervous, so they tend to give additional warning time and make every attempt to ensure that they are clear before making lane changes. However, there is only so much they can do if you are not paying attention, or choose to ignore the warnings they give you. And if you don't know enough about driving by now to know that you never pass a truck on the right side anywhere near an intersection or turn off, then there may not be much help for you.

However, there are always those drivers who either don't care, or who are not paying attention, who will do lane changes with no warning (considering the number of regular people who do this on a regular basis, i.e. lazy pricks, this shouldn't be that much of a surprise), or making even bigger sweeping turns then that necessarily need to, you always need to keep an eye out and be ready to react. A good mentality to have with every other fool you meet on the roads, regardless of what they drive.

i never change lanes in front of a tractor trailer while approaching a red light. im thinking u guys are calculating the amount of distance left to stop and a car changing lanes in front of u can mess dat up.

like how following shitty AT drivers sometimes pisses me off cause im looking at the space in front of the pos AT car and calculating the amount of engine braking and braking i apply coming to a stop. some fakers stop leaving like 3-4 car lengths in front of them for no faking reason... then creep slowly.
