How do you drive around trucks ?
Seriously, I have some kind of phobia to the big and heavy trucks. Everytime I see those car accident scenes in which trucks involved, it seems like getting an accident with any type of a truck just literally means 'death'. I believe I usually keep safe distance enough from other cars, but get confused how to behave when I see a truck close to me. How do you cope with the trucks ?? Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk |

We are talking Tractor Trailers on the interstate, right? Simple... I ensure I never drive next to one for any longer than I have to. As I come up to one, I will wait behind in the passing lane until I have a clear shot at passing it entirely, then scoot past it as quickly and safely as possible... watch for left hand curves as the trailer may tend to wander into your lane as the truck goes thru the turn. Also, watch for bridge and overpasses where shoulders are non-existant, which also means your safety margin is non-existent...
Drive safe...

I often change lanes beneath lifted pick up trucks for fun
Seriously, though, I just try to make sure they see me. I'll speed up or slow down to avoid their blind spot as well as ensure that I don't change lanes into it. Otherwise, its no different that any other driver on the road. Sedan drivers on their phone are much worse than the avg truck driver. You must have faith that the other drivers are not going to run you off the road, and you have to be prepared for when they try it

Peak out a little to see if I can make a full pads. .. drop a gear or two and rip it past. Not too fast tho
If it's a single lane dotted I will rip hard though... assuming it's safe |

-only drive next to them if you have to
-if you are next to them, they to be there for the shortest length of time possible (either drive faster or slower than them, never the same speed as they are going) -if you cant see the driver, they can't see you -try not to dive on there right side. they only have mirrors to see you with vs being able to turn there head and see you (depending on where you are on the left) -be decisive when driving near them, you do not want to give mixed signals to confuse them -turn on lights anytime vision is impaired -don't tailgate them or anyone -be defensive and let them merge when they have blinkers on. You can flash your headlights to let them know you see them and you are ok to let them come over to your lane. -never cut them off! They require a lot more road to stop vs you so if you have to suddenly break, they will too.. SQUISH! -watch out then they turn right! they will usually put on left blinker first to 1/2 merge into the left lane and drive on the line for a little bit. Then they will blinker right then turn right. Don't pass them up, as the tail end will swing out. YzGyz |

Im a truck driver, just pass safely and dont cut 2 feet in front of the truck, if speeds are moving 65 ,pass in front of the truck at minimum of 50 feet. If your angry at the lane the truck is in and not going as fast as you like ,dont cut in front of the truck ,you are only endangering yourself. be safe everyone and be patient.

Lots of good advice itt. Having had an 18-wheeler change lanes into me years ago where two interstates merged, I am particularly careful to avoid being in a truck's blind spot when they or I are merging.
I also try not to drive beside them for any longer than necessary. If "forced" to do so, I strive to get in a position where I can see the truckdriver's face in his rear-view mirror. |
