In car speedometer
Hey so weird question... anyone have any speedometers/app/program/tool that can track both MPH and KMH with certain accuracy?
Reason I'm asking is because I'm going on a road trip and just realized how the MPH lines are not scaled properly. ie the 60mph is aprox 90kmh (it should be a tad under the 100), plus my having slightly different sized tires, I just don't want to be caught with my pants around my ankles when I'm in the states. |

When I've traveled to Canada for work before I've always used my GPS to give me my speed in km/h. On the drive from Windsor to Brantford I didn't have any issues. Also never had any issues with accuracy in remote areas. Only issue I've ever had with my gps is in big cities where skyscrapers, tunnels, etc. block the satellite signal.

I use a GPS app on my phone from time to time on my phone - (digihud) , only when going through wooded areas or canyons should the signal be compromised , they are considerably more accurate than the speedometer

GPS coverage is (usually) a lot better than cell phone.

Phone GPS should, honestly, be good enough. Your speed isn't fluctuating much at highway speed so you should have an accurate reading after a few seconds.

in the states the speed limit is usually 70 on the interstates... go 120-130kmh and no one will bother you at all. on the highways you can do 110-120kmh and again shouldn't be bothered.
whenever i drive to canada i always forget it's in kmh and one trip i drove 100mph where it was 100kmh. i was wondering why everyone was driving so slow

My Passport 9500ix is pretty accurate. And I can switch between miles and kmh.

Phone GPS and consumer GPS units use the same chips and radios; you're not going to see any difference between the two as long as the phone's processor isn't too slow to run the OS (ex iOS 9 on a iPhone 4); you could get app freeze and the display could fail to update.
I use Waze as well for traffic and smokey reports. Its speedometer is plenty accurate and suitable for staying legal. Network coverage doesn't matter, the speedometer is calculated using GPS alone. |

GPS does not use any data. You can shut the data off completely and GPS apps will still work.
