You can usually tell someone doesn't know much about cars if they don't have much respect for the Miata.

I don't know if I'd say "respect" is the right word, I get it, I understand why people love them, and they have their niche, but I don't know I'd say I respect them. I would also say I do know a little about cars.

The VQ37 horsepower to displacement ratio is not very good compared to a modern liter bike. 86 HP/liter compared to 120+/liter of any modern sport bike. Where's your disdain for that?

Own both
As a Nismo and Miata owner (NA 1st gen), there is lots to like about both. I cheat a little in that my Miata is set up for the track (I instruct at DE events) and turbocharged, it has an equal fun factor compared to my Z. I have respect for both and enjoy them equally and have tracked them both.
You can get a nice NA or NB for a reasonable price and have a fun convertible. |

HP to displacement is a whole different subject. 150ish HP on a bike is a rocket. On a 2000lb+ car it's just pathetic no matter what size the engine is.

370z forum - Miata lacks power
Miata forum - 370z weights too much

Fair point, I think I was trying to say people who disparage them are showing their ignorance. I've driven them, I enjoyed driving them, but I don't own one, and I miss my Z's torque when I'm driving one.

I pretty much will give any one the respect to love and build what ever car makes them happy, and would never really down any one for what their passion is. I may not agree it's the greatest thing on the road, but I do understand every one has their four wheel love affair. I love Z's and a lot of people would say I'm wasting money on them, I also have love affair with early ford falcons and many would say the same about them. It's not about the car to me, it's the passion you have for it that matters.
