Late to the party it looks like but for anyone who is considering a ND miata or the 370. Go sit in each one, I sat in an ND miata with the roof down and I understood the definition of clausterphobia a little better. It felt very small, and this is coming from someone who has daily driven their Z for over a year now. I would also argue that its just a different class of car. If you drive a 370z your more likely to feel "in competition" with other cars that roll up next to you, not that anyone ever actually should act on this. But its a nice feeling to know "i could if I wanted to" or something along those lines. And in the Miata your not going to get that feeling.
That being said, I saw 55 million miatas at my first autocross event the other day and I was the only 370z. (there was a gorgeous 280z tho) So for the cheapest possible true drivers car, maybe miata drivers know something I don't. For a daily? I've never regretted my choice. Plus now that my baby is up to almost 400 horses, that's a nice feeling.

None of them were in my class, and it was my first ever autocross so I beat out a 2011 STI and lost to 2 C5 Corvettes. I ran a 64.5, the STI was at 66.xx and the closest C5 was at 64.3. So not awful but I've got a lot to learn. Also my tires are junk, who has ever even seen Fuzion UHP's installed on a Z, whoever owned my car before me clearly said "what are the absolute cheapest tires I can buy? get me those". :/

There's a 2016 Miata parked where I live, must have a body kit on it so the rear appears more like a Lambo than having that Miata pucker-up-this-is-gonna-hurt look to it. It's impressive due to its really pretty color. Never met the owner, but I bet she loves her car.
The Z has that feel of being a "she" that's torquey, and the rear of a woman in jeans that fit way too well--I just look at it and wanna apply wax...LOL Saw a Porche the other day, kind of like a 911, don't know for sure, silver, the front and rear seemed way, way low, like a skinny chick that needed to eat. It just seems they're faking it, putting on airs. Even in that attached image, both seem uninspiring. |

I think the Cayman body looks better than the 911 body. 911 has a lot of overhang on the ends. I like wheels pushed to the corners of the body.

I had a NB and two NC while I was between Zs, a 280 and now 370. Autocrossed them all they are a fun car to drive and race. The Z and MX5 is not a valid comparison. The MX5 light and a little under powered where the Z is much burlier, faster car. Going to start solo crossing again and see how they compare there.

I had a Miata NB as a weekend driver. After a 4 day 1000 mile road trip through Montana, Idaho, Washington and back to Montana my wife and I decided the Miata was a little small for that type of road trip. I got my wife's okey dokey to look for a 370z roadster. I found a 2010 Black Cherry Touring roadster last fall and after a day trip through Yellowstone Park there is no going back to the Miata. Nothing against the Miata, but it just isn't what we wanted for top down road trips. We are already planning a 6 day Montana to Las Vegas and back via the back roads of Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming in July. Damn, I wish it would warm up!

For what its worth, I had a MX5, sold it 1 month ago and already miss it. I have always liked Zeds, in fact I had the original 240Z modded, such a beast. I am contemplating buying a 370Z but my reservation is that it is now a 7 year old car, and Nissan has not indicated when the next gen will be released. That new MX5 RF though is worth waiting for and that is why i'll hang back and wait and see what will be coming out in the next 2 years. |

Fiancee wants her own convertible, I suggested a 2016 Miata with automatic transmission, as they look really nice. She said thank you and is looking at a 2009 Honda S2000 with low miles.
At first I kind of felt like a d----, but realizing she's mine, well, I'm a lucky guy. |

Funny that I started reading this thread and this conversation at work also started. These are not my opinions, but from some moron at work.
"miatas make me laugh! i can't even see em if they are next to or behind me may as well sit on the hot asphalt with the other road kill" "i used to like small fast nimble cars. then i got into a truck. something about being over everything seeing over traffic, being able to look ahead and run into or over things and not even notice my friend was like watch out for that curve! i was like what curve as we drove right over it. it watch out for that puddle!! what puddle as we displace the water into the neighboring convertible miata"1 |
