nismo oil cooler
I tried to find post /threads on oil cooler install for my 2010 nismo ,but im unsuccessful here.
It seems there is a different procedure to installing on these from a regular Z. Any direction help would be greatly appreciated. |
I think the nismos come with one from factory,,,,some nismo guy will chime in

I thought it was just different brackets for mounting the oil cooler. Did you buy the actual Nismo oil cooler or one from somewhere else?

The nismo oil cooler has a longer threaded piece for the oil filter and also has water connection through it ..... You would be better off with a aftermarket cooler like z1 25 or 34 row cooler

There is no Nismo specific oil cooler. The only difference is you need to flip the front dampener so the fat end is on the other side of the car.

Look at Fast Intentions website for an install procedure. You will need to flip the body damper and add some washers to the back of the mounting brackets to space the damper out.

Adding an oil cooler is really easy. The only difference between a Nismo and a non Nismo is the front damper. As posted above, you just have to do the, Nismo Flip" and install like regular.
The BP kit came with a 30 row so that is what I installed. If it didn't I would of bought the bigger 34 row Z1 kit with thermo plate. A quick break down of the process: 1- have oil change material + 1 extra qt of oil (6qt) 2-get car in air and drain oil 3- remove front of car (bunch of screws on the bottom, 1 on each side in the tire wells. 4-attach mounting bracket to oil cooler itself 5-place 2 clips on bottom of pre-molded plastic of car. you can see the plastic in the picture belowhttp://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...psomq85wqh.jpg 5-Attach oil cooler w/mounting bracket to newly placed mounting clips. Note where the screw on the mounting plate are in reference to where to place the 2 clips http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...pswtjlhbf8.jpg 6-in the place where you would normally screw in the new oil filter, you will screw in the thermo plate. Apply a little oil onto the rubber seal to get a better seal. Give the bolt a nice snug once installed. My bolt was a 1'' standard socket believe. Then you will screw the new oil filter to the thermo plate (again, put a little oil onto the rubber seal to seat it better, also fill the filter with as much oil as you can prior to installing it). 7-attach the 2 new oil lines to the thermo plate and run them to the oil cooler. 8-fill oil cooler with oil prior to attaching the 2 new lines (around 1 qt) 9-fill engine with oil (5 qt) 10- make sure everything is snug and tight prior to starting car. Let it run a little, shut off then sit for 15 minutes to let the oil settle and then check oil level. Add more oil as needed. 11- check thermo plate for leaks. If the thermo plate leaks, you will have to drain the oil and tighter the bolt holding the thermo plate tighter. YzGyz |

Which oil cooler kit did you get. It makes a difference on how you run the oil lines from the cooler to the plate. On the Nismo, like others have said. You have to flip the chassis dampener around so that the fat part of it is on the right side. You also have to add about a 1/4" spacer behind the dampener mounts. I have the 34 row Z1 cooler. In the picture. You will also see a Z1 power steering cooler on the passenger side. Click on picture to make it bigger.

Mine is a 2010 ,they did not come with 1 ,the 2012-13 did. I actually found a complete tutorial on a Nismo install. I searched google and it brought me back here lol! Pretty darn good actually. http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...ded-vipor.html

Do I need a bigger oil filter, or can I use the original?
