High-Pitched Frequency Update

Z owners...FYI...some of the guys on the G37 forum are making progress on the aggravating high-pitched frequency coming from our G37s. They have recorded and isolated the frequency to be ~10mHz and have graphs and soundbites to prove it. You may be able to duplicate the test on your Zs and help us take to Nissan and Infiniti to get their attention on solving the problem once and for all.

Perhaps a search can pull it up, but there's a thread on these forums that discusses someone's trip to the dealership about this, and I believe they figured out what was causing it.

EDIT:

Here it is: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...k-members.html

thanks for the post... very interesting. Do you have a link to the G37 thread about this? I would like to read it. Thanks again!

10MHz is well out of human hearing range. 10KHz, well that might be worth noting.

i'd estimate that it's in the 10k+ freq range. i hear it when i'm touching the gas pedal. it's like it's the fuel pump trigger wire from the BCM or somethin iono. minor, but i'd still like it to go away.

My hearing is so poor, I'd need subtitles to hear any high pitch noise from the engine!

I thought it would be a higher frequency, but I just listened to 10khz and it's an exact match.

Here's a sample:
The play button is hard to find, but it's right above the yellow box.
freesound :: view sample :: TONE 10 kHz 44.1 16bit.wav

This stuff hurts my ears.

That's it! That is it! Good job, G37 crew.

And Jungle, thanks for posting that. I feel like I'm driving my Z... at my computer!

If that's the case, mine doesn't have it (that, or I just can't hear it in the car). Mine was assembled March 2009.

Might be helpful to Nissan to know if it was a run of bad parts.

I just got back from the dealership today complaining about the problem. the service guys told me at first it was the electric motor for the fuel pump? and he said that all the cars have it and its normal, but he then called nissan to make sure and they told him that the sound i was hearing was coming from the ecm and it was a problem that since september they are now aware of. they also said that the 2010 model 370z's will not have that problem and that they will be posting a bulletin and or/ issuing a recall to fix this problem. I can't really prove this stuff to you guys since it was just a verbal conversation with the head service guy. hope this helps~!
