I have taken mine in. You want a name and dealer? I think John, the older service manager couldn't hear it. Sean, the younger manager, got in and heard it right away and called it "annoying." This is Russ Darrow Nissan in Milwaukee. There are your names.
They reported it to corporate, I called the Consumer Affairs line and talked to Lisa, my MW CA rep. She went over to the Infiniti office and they confirmed this was a problem. Lisa told me that they are working on a permanent fix. She didn't know about a TSB issued, nor one coming. Just, "We are working on a fix and you are not the only one with this problem." Russ Darrow Nissan, who has been very, very nice, is watching their TSB list every day, watching for the ringing TSB. They said they would call me THE DAY it came out. They offered to replace my ECU if I'd like, but we decided to just wait until there's concrete evidence of a fix. For now, I will wait. LSUTurboTiger has the description right on, and Jungle and the G37 crew has the pitch, 10kHz, down to perfection. Those of you who can't hear it, you are lucky. Your ears ring for well over an hour after you get out of the car. For those of you who don't know, this is a problem not only on the 370Z and the G37, but I also heard it in my sister's 2008 EX35. This is affecting most Infiniti's with the 3.5/3.7, and of course, our 370Z. I haven't checked if the Max, Altima, or Murano are having it. Honestly, I have not been able to hear it in my 2009 FX35 yet though, though some on the FX forum have been hearing it as well. I don't think the FXers know how big of a problem this is for a lot of Nissan and Infiniti owners. I think I've done all I can for now. If Lisa told me they're working on a fix, I believe her. Why would they just say that? They said they were working on a Nissan Motorsports Oil Cooler before it came out, and they did it. I don't see them 'lying' about this. The point of this... The fix can't come out soon enough. Last edited by TheWeatherman; 11-18-2009 at 10:31 AM. Reason: Adjusted 10Hz to kHz |

You should take it in and at least report you have the problem. At the very least Nissan can get some statistics back from actual customers. |

I am still trying to determine if there are two different noises we are hearing. In my case, if the car is not running but the ignition is on (MT car in gear) you can hear a high pitched whine (right around 10k) coming from the engine compartment. Interestingly, if you put the car in neutral the noise goes away. Those who have a noise problem would you try that combination and see what happens.

Here's a GREAT post from our G37 friends.
Today, 12:08 PM #232 punker Registered User Trader Score: (0) Join Date: Nov 2009 Posts: 4 We got a call from our dealer in Alexandria VA yesterday. He said that infiniti's engineers are 'well aware' of the issue' at this point, and are looking for a way to solve it. They are calling it the 'young ears' problem, for obvious reasons. They also said that solutions they have tried so far have been hit or miss, but one that creates more problems than it solves (generally speaking) is insulating the ECU to dampen the noise. Turns out that spraying foam on an ECU will cause it to heat up too much. Go figure. Right now I've got an old comforter stuffed in the passenger footwell. It works, kind of. So, bottom line - infiniti knows, and is working on it. The very latest I'd expect a solution is right before they roll out next years models. They dont want to perpetuate the issue, but the die has been cast for our model years. |

I'm curious -- those of you who are suffering through this issue, did you not notice it when you took your cars for a test drive? Or did some of you not test drive at all? Or did the problem develop only after you took possession (i.e., it started after x number of miles)?

It's probably one of those things where the salesperson is talking too much or you've got the windows down or something during the testdrive and thereby not hearing it. It's also not prevalent on all Zs so maybe they drove a different car than they bought. Mine is barely noticeable; any hard driving or loud radio masks it very well. Some others aren't as lucky.

it's been growing, actually. to me, it's a lot louder than it was before. maybe because i notice it and i get into the car thinking "that damn noise needs to stop"?? |
