that's fine. Though I should say that it IS recommended to use ester based synthetic engine oil due to DLC coated internals. But I'm sure you know about that. Just to be on the safe side. Though most use Redline, there ARE member like you who uses off the shelf regular oil.

I've heard that they haven't recommended ester oil since 2010. I'm pretty sure i read in my FSM that mobil1 is recommended by Nissan.

Isn't Mobil 1 the factory fill oil for the GTR? Why would Nissan recomend ester oil for the Z and not for the higher output GTR?

Baseline recommendation by Nissan is any oil that meets API-SN or ILSAC SF-5

GT-R...they recommend Mobil 1

Quote:
NOTICE
  • Mobil 1 (0W-40) (100% synthetic) is the factory fill oil. The VR38 engine with its plasma-sprayed bores was developed using this oil. NISSAN cannot ensure proper engine operation and durability if other 0W-40 synthetic oil is used. If Mobil 1 (0W- 40) is not available, Mobil 1 (10W- 40) (100% synthetic) may be used; however, some performance loss may be noticed.

You're right. They recommend Nissan ester oil or equivalent. Such as Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 is NOT equivalent. Ester oil is a synthesized mineral oil, vegetable oil, and animal fats. NOT the same as synthesized dinosaurs oil. Ester is also used in AC compressors and in jet engines. I doubt they would use Mobil 1 in your commercial jet engines. The Z engine recommends this because of your VVEL system.

Most dealership or should I say stealerships don't know what the heck they are doing either. One put 6qts in my 1.6DIG-T when it requires only 4.8qts. The dealerships are only there to make money and most are not very knowledgeable on the brands they are selling.

Question: Do you trust the Owners Manual that came from the Manufacturer, or what some service rep or mechanic that don't give a crap about your car says?

Weelllllllll there's always exceptions. That friend who owns the dealerships, also owns a modified TT and had a 370z for a few years as well. Some of them still care. Not everyone puts in only Ester, and the Zs drive on. It'll all be OK.
