Default A question about the 370z pull

I plan on getting either the 2010 model 370z or G37. I'm going to go with the 7AT and sports package. I know it had 330hp and 270 torque, but how's the rush of the pull from lets say 40mph-70mph or 30mph-60mph. Can you tell me specifically how it's like? does your head go all the way back and you sink hard into your seat? or does something else happen. Thanks in advance for any info. i'm talking about the 7AT by the way

It does not feel as fast as it is. The power delivery is smooth so you don't feel a hard pull. I had an 05 STi before this car so I was use to the feel of the turbo kicking in with tons of torque...which might explain the way I fell.

I've been in both the 7AT and 6MT, and the pull is nearly identical, assuming you're in sports mode on the AT.

30-60 in 2nd/3rd gear is great. 4500-5500 RPM range in all gears really has some great pull.

40-70 is a gray area. If you do it in 4th, you're fine...however you're not usually "cruising" at 55-60 in 4th gear ready to go up to 80. If you're in 6th at 55 and go to 70, it's gonna take 10 seconds. If you're in 4th at 40 and go up to 70, it's gonna take only 3 seconds.

My GF, who often rides with me, says her head flies back whenever I accelerate, especially at the 30-60 range in which you inquired about. I feel the pull as well, but doesn't quite feel as substantial.

Remember, one of the "bad" things about the 370z compared to previous Z's and other sports cars, is that because of the build, it really "hides" some of the power from the driver. But trust me, the performance is there and very real.

so i guess the 2009 G37 7AT would have less of a pull than that of the Z right being that it's 300-400 pounds more, or does that give more pull?

The G37 has noticeably less pull from what I've read. I did a considerable amount of research between the 370z and the G37 and still wonder if I made the right decision.

Not to say I'm unhappy with my Z, I f'ing love the car.

Do a test drive with the 7AT if you get the chance. In sports mode, it certainly doesn't feel like you're driving an auto. A good quote from someone on these forums was "This isn't your father's automatic transmission."

The torque has actually pushed me through the seat. Cost a lot to repair it.

Before you go spending thousands on upgrade mods and do the mistake I made. Get gears, and an upgraded valve body from GTM and you will be untouchable. The car will accelerate like a beast and shift like a GTR

Now accelerate from 40-70mph in 3rd and tell me what you think. Yes, intoxicating.

The car has pull but power delivery is smooth and linear, so you're not going to get "thrown" into the back of your seat. I owned a slower car on paper that was a lot more violent in acceleration feel... hell, my girlfriend's CLK500 "feels" more powerful in acceleration but if we actually ran the cars side by side I'd pull... that's what 340 lb-ft or so will do.

Best thing to do is go drive one. If your Civic is stock or anywhere near stock, you are probably going to feel "violent" acceleration until you get used to the 370.

To OP: That's the thing, the VQ37VHR has this VVEL technology whose job is to flatten out the torque curve, unlike boosted car where you get thrown to the back seat when the boost kicks in, power comes very linear at WOT in the VQ37

You do get a the kick when you're say in first at 4k and then floor it.. The G37 gives a little less kick due to it's sluggish weight

i was originally gonna get a g37s..which in my opinion would have more pull then a 7AT, and even with the stick the pull wasn't that great. I was a bit disappointed with the power coming from that car so i did more research and that why im looking for a 370 now, and after driving the 370, the pull is sooo much better in it than the g37. they made the 37 to be too smooth and more luxary feeling then the Z. in my opinion it comes down to..do you want smoothness and comfort...or more speed and performance?

Yes the Z is more performance oriented, it's ECU is tuned in a more aggressive manner (response wise) unlike the G37 which is tuned for my grandma and yours to drive. The G is also around 400-500 lbs heavier I believe.

^ yea that, but the g37 drives nice...it was built for the general public to drive. for people that might want that extra power here and there..but its not for the guys that like to drive hard.

do a search on 0-60 times and 1/4 times and you'll see the difference is speed

yeah the Z pulls sub 5s 0-60 unlike the G37, but come on the G37 does drive hard when you want her to

after driving my Z, my G feels considerably slower accelerating from certain mph. mainly the 50hp difference and gearing.
