External oil cooler needed on recent Z?
Does the more recent Z with the factory oil cooler still need an external oil cooler for track day?
|
Yes. The factory one is a joke

For track days definitely ditch the factory cooler.

From what I’ve seen it works well enough for spirited driving in moderate climates. YMMV |

Mines a 2013 where it has that factory oil cooler, really all it does is heat up your water temps faster, it's too small to transfer enough heat into the water and to the radiator during hard driving. |
Yes. My '13 Z I couldn't get past three laps at Sebring Raceway. Oh pads too.

Then again on a track you get a lot of air passing through the engine |
Dont forget brake fluid

I've got the Gamma oil pan and it seems to help quite a bit.... but for a track day I gotta believe you need a real cooler.

On 2010 Sport even without any additional factory OEM cooler, I have no problem at all for daily driving.
But for track days .. yes I guess you should have a pretty good one installed. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk |
