Need some advises
Purchased an used 2014 from a consignment dealer on Dec. 26th 2015. Still have not received my registration and title. Been calling the dealer and was fed with excuses after excuses. Finally I found out from the owner he had just paid off the bank on March 01. He finally received the title from the bank on the 24th of March. He said he will get to the DMV as soon as he can.
What can I do at this point? My current tag has expired on Jan. 2016. I do not want to piss him off. I am in CA. I tried to research via the DMV to see what can be done in situation like this. Apparently there is not much a consumer can do except to seek private legal action. |

i thought u were supposed to received the title with a release signature and you take it to DMV to have the car registered under your name?
might be different in CA, but in my state the new owner does the paper work. the selling party would just mail out the stub (part of the title) to DMV stating the sale. |

Buying an used car from a dealer is similar to buying a new car. The dealer handles all the paper work via the DMV. Then the DMV sends the registration and title to the new owner
It would be correct to have the pink slip in hand before paying if purchasing a car through a private seller. |

I have actually filed an official DMV complaint against this dealership. But I am not sure that will accelerate my changes of the dealer going to the DMV and register my car. After all, I paid for the car and I want my title. |

if it's the dealer being lazy and not doing their end of the deal you shouldn't have closed the deal and ask for your deposit back until they provide title AND product. also did you pay the car in full? or are you financing it? you live and learn |

This is pretty much standard practice when a car is sold through a dealer. It is just that this particular dealer is NOT doing what it supposed to. |

as for title, just let the system take care of itself. its not like u lost the car, u just need to wait in this case. have the sales receipt with u if you are that paranoid for showing proof of purchase for some reason. ur insurance can still apply insurance on the car. |

Getting pulled over is exactly my concern. Even I have all the documentations to proof it is not my fault I still can get a fix it ticket. Besides I don't need to be held up if I am going to work or places. By the way, I think 370z/350z was the number one car that most frequently get stopped by police. Plus I want the title of the car I paid. |

where'd you pull that stat from? STI's seem to be a ticket magnet. FRS as well. 370's not on the list. albeit a bit older... maybe you shouldn't speed and be a douche driver and you shouldn't attract unwanted attention.

Any vehicle sale transfer paperwork should have been completed within 30 days in CA. I'd complain to the DMV, as they can revoke or suspend the dealer's license.
