Say it ain't so... Nismo Foglight Install

Hiya,

Searched and searched but couldn't find confirmation...

Do you have to take the rear bumper off the Nismo 370z to get the fog light installed?

There's no way possible to get at the lower nut of the fog with all the additional braces tried swivel socket boxed wrench and no go.

Please help forum friends. Thanks

Yep, I'm looking specific for the Nismo Install. The diffuser bracing is making the lower nut impossible.

Well that wasn't so bad.

Inside of bumper has a lot more bracing.

Mainly this which is the cause to today's events.

I win.

Doing this with out the bumper removed I suppose is doable but they are better than me if they can pull it off.

Side benefit will be an easier and cleaner splice into the license plate lights

Still putting everything back on but wiping everything I can down first. Do you think I should leave the interior panels out if I'm having a backup cam installed next week? Shop might appreciate that right?

Long story... Had a 2011 PW ST and put about 90K on it quick. Traded that for the Juke RS and missed the Z everyday. Found a deal on the Nismo Z that I just couldn't pass up.

Louie cat 03-28-2016 11:57 AM

I was wondering the same since mine is empty too.

Your welcome...

I wouldn't say it's impossible to do the install without removing the bumper, but with the visibility and the additional bracing and angles in the area where the fog goes I had just had enough.

Steps are just:
1. Remove interior trunk panels
2. Remove taillights
3. Passenger side bumper 2 bolts 2 push pins
4. Drivers side 1 bolt 2 push pins
5. Underneath 2 bolts 6 push pins
6. Carefully remove bumper with placing something to support the bumper if doing it alone

That's pretty much it. Don't doubt it... Do it!

How was getting the nut and bolts on the fake fog light off? I've read it's a pain because it spins or rusts together and some people have to cut it off

I've been very lucky and haven't had that issue.. I have heard that though.

This is the 3rd one I've done and I've found the following helps:

Leave the car parked with the rear facing the sun for a couple hours. Then if possible use a combination wrench on the nut. Counter clockwise slow even pressure. Probably the stripping issue comes from just forcing it thus gouging the plastic where the bolt seats in the housing.

You can also soak the nut in acetone or penetrating oil I've heard that too.

Yeah pretty straight forward getting over the mental aspect of "I'm taking off the bumper of my 40 thousand dollar car to install a 60 dollar light?" Is the real struggle ;)

kenchan 03-30-2016 09:45 AM

i can see dat. i guess im just too use to taking things apart on my car. :rofl2:

Is that the JDM light.. not iJDMTOY? Why does it look yellow with red outline? Should be all red.. unless it's your camera

Standard on JDM Z to be used in poor weather conditions as notification to cars behind you.

So basically so you don't get rear ended

And because it looks cool =)
