Downshifting into first gear

I have the 7 A/T and intermittently when coming to a stop, the car downshifts very hard into first gear. It feels as if someone has hit me from behind. Does anyone else have this problem?

not trolllolol, this is pretty stupid of nissan to program it if it does downshift to 1st even in manual mode. it should stop at 2nd.. think slippery conditions.

no matter what it'll shift into 1st in manual or auto mode automatcially.

basiacally the AT will not shift up for you so you can bang it off the redline BUT it downshifts no matter what so the engine doesnt stall.

in auto mode obviously it will upshift and downshift all on its own.

in manual my 2009 wont shift unless i make the gear change.

i have no idea if they changed that in the newer models.

I have a '15. Does not shift at redline. Oddly enough, if left in automatic mode for a spirited sprint it will Rev up all the way to 7800 before shifting. After that happened a couple times I got used to flicking it over to manual mode for merging onto highways.

Yes. Usually it will downshift on the curving on ramp to 4ish, but then when I gun it to not get run over on the highway (on ramps sharing the same lane as off ramps suck) it downshifts to 2-3 and likes to run up the rpms closer to 8k. My Rev limiter is set to 7k, so it's blinking and everything.

Try putting it back in auto mode before going into first.

Kazzan11236 03-18-2016 07:10 AM

The 7AT will down shift when the rpms go under 1500 to keep from stalling

Even thou it will hold 2nd gear for longer at low speeds and rpm, it does shift u back into first at speeds under 10mph. Sometimes under 15mph if your foot is not on the accelerator

It's because you got a bonafide, street legal....race car from Nissan.
