Finally did a test drive!

So i've researched the hell out of this car and i finally went for a test drive today.

Car pulls nice! the throttle response in the mid range is way better then i expected. It's not so great in 5th while at 50-60 mph..but thats what 3rd and 4th are for. i'd say its a somewhat stiff ride. The one i drove was a demo model so it already had 5k miles on it. the shift knob had quite a bit of feedback coming in..felt like an old eclipse i had. is that the way everyone shift knob is? overall those it felt like a nice sports car.

i'm just waiting on those 2010 models to come in to get 1. can't wait.

Matt 11-14-2009 05:15 PM

After driving it for a few weeks, I can agree with 5th at around 60 mph. I can cruise at 65, drop it from 6th to 5th and see little difference in response, but 4th feels great at that speed.

The shifter has a very aggressive feedback in it, especially at higher rpms. I can't complain, that's the thing my gf thinks is sexiest about the car! She likes to hold the knob while I shift with my hand on top of hers.

Glad you liked it overall! Why are you waiting til 2010? No giant changes with them, and people are getting great deals on the 09's!

MindFusion FX 11-14-2009 06:16 PM

well the dealers arent getting any more 09's from what they tell me. and there isnt 1 anywhere near me that has a base model white, with sport, and 6spd. and its so close to 2010 that i might as well hold out a smitch longer and get the newest model :-D

I know somewhere in FL, especially in the Orlando area has one.

MindFusion FX 11-14-2009 10:34 PM

thats too far..im in the miami area.

avitech 11-16-2009 01:37 PM

Isn't it amazing! I had no idea how great this car handled. I took one for a test drive the other day and was immediately sold. I don't agree with the saying that it's a poor mans Porsche. Since it's no Porsche, it's a high performance Japanese car. Which gives you high performance and reliability without the Porche price tag. I want to buy this car as soon as I can afford. This could be the last Japanese car that is made in Japan. They are setting up factories in North America and other places now which aren't nearly as good as the land of the rising sun. I can't miss out on this one.

MindFusion FX 11-16-2009 01:40 PM

:iagree: im hope to have in the next month or 2.

elmz 11-16-2009 02:36 PM

Unfortunately, its normal for the shifter to vibrate like that. It's something I've always hated even in my old 350z. It gets worse near redline, the shifter and gas pedal begins to shake terribly.

is it bad enough to really bother you? that shakes makes it feel like the car is old

I am going to spare you the obvious response. I'll leave that to ________.

About the shift knob and the girl. Well, some of us have grown up already and middle school was too long ago. Not everyone remains wet behind the ear. It's a maturity thing. This website wasn't created to talk about women anyway. The main topic of discussion is this legendary Nissan 370Z. And what are our plans for such a fine automobile.

EDIT: my original post seemed a little abrasive, so I'll back off a little.

1.) Excuse the fact that both my female companion and I are both younger than your Mercedes Benz.

2.) The Z is the fastest and most powerful car either of us have ever been in. This creates a level of excitement and enjoyment for both of us that is hard to express, and it's my fault that my post attempting to describe this failed to do so appropriately and adequately.

3.) Neither of us have been a member of this forum for more than 60 days. To discuss what topics should and shouldn't be discussed is a bit out of our lane.

I don't get it, so who's holding the knob and who's doing the shifting hahaha

[sorry tried to let it slip, but couldn't :bowrofl:]

Do you guys know if the CVT's available in the 370 line-up?

Okay, let me get this straight. You say that this website wasn't created to talk about women. Yet, thus far, you have made two posts self-righteously preaching to everyone about driving within the speed limit and obeying all traffic laws. Newsflash: This website wasn't created to talk about traffic laws either. Hypocrisy, anyone? You could, of course, argue that traffic laws are indirectly relevant in so far as the Z is a car that gets driven in traffic. I would in fact agree with you, but I would also point out that the Z is a car that has a good amount of sex-appeal. (Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if the Z's sex-appeal actually factored into some people's purchasing decisions.) Hence I don't see how mentioning a woman's reaction to the Z is any more off-topic than your holier than thou admonitions on how other people ought to drive their Zs. Point being, unless you plan to restrict all your posts to topics that are strictly about the 370Z, you're really not in a position to slag off other people for talking about side-issues.

Moreover, Matt's remark about his girlfriend wasn't even the core of his post. His response to the OP was directly on point, and all he did was make a lighthearted side-remark about how his girlfriend actually likes the feedback from the shifter for a bit of levity. And for that you found it necessary to attack him personally, implying that he has the mentality of a middle-schooler and remains wet behind the ear? What makes your post all the more ironic is that the sole purpose of your post was to attack Matt -- in other words, while falsely accusing Matt of not staying on topic, your own post wasn't on topic. Unlike Matt, you didn't contribute a single word that was pertinent to the original topic of this thread (shifter feedback). So I gotta ask, who do you think are? I mean seriously. You joined just yesterday, have only posted seven times, and within those seven posts you've taken it upon yourself to ascend the soapbox to preach to everyone about their driving habits twice, and flame someone for a harmless remark about his girlfriend. And to top it all off, you have the wherewithal to lecture others about why this forum was created while making these posts that have nothing to do with what, by your own definition, this forum was created for. Wtf, dude?

Welcome to the forum. If your goal is to make enemies or just generally rub people the wrong way, I'd say you're off to a spectacularly good start.

"If you want to drive faster than 80mph you should just get an airplane and learn to fly. "

I've spent almost more time over 80 than I have under 80. (hyperbole!)

::sigh:: tisk tisk tisk, well nobody is perfect. I never even claimed to be perfect. I can see that you are quick to criticize and use your reasoning/argumentative skills. But so what. Nothing wrong with that, it exercise the brain more. You saw me doing it and you simply joined in on all the fun.

As for the Shift knob feed back. I am 100% satisfied with it when I test drove the 370Z. It is crisp and precise. It gives excellent feed back. It is totally predictable and there is zero slop as far as I can tell. Nissan made one of the most fantastic driving machines in this case. They are in Porsche/BMW territory yet they keep their prices reasonable for the average Joe. They are a true blessing. I can't wait to drive the 370Z that I do get FAST over a dry lake bed in California. It must be the most exhilarating feeling to drive a 370Z on a closed race track! I can hardly wait.

Looks like this was all one big miscommunication here. Matt there is no need to apologize since you weren't really in the wrong. It's just that people don't always use proper newsgroup forum etiquette. But in this case the problem is now solved. I didn't mean to be overly abrasive or controlling. It just seemed like the right way to respond at the time based on limited information.

I've seen posts go WAY off topic; It is not even funny. I'm glade that we can all be adults about this and move on.

Accurately put, avitech--'bout the Z being a Jap' Sports car. Reliable, good MPG, the whole nine yards, w./o. the Porsche tag! I read somewhere it's the best-selling Sports car in the world (at least, the 350 was; dunno 'bout the 370, though). Greetings
